QA requirement

My hubby has begun a QA online course since I have come to realize all the consequences of not having a fulltime QAP. First you can only ship what the QAP says you can ship, and if he/she only drops by once a week, so much for my dream of same day shipping. The other thing I am learning is how in other industries, the QAP is at arms length from sales and the books, for the reason of conflict of interest. Something is different with this industry and I don't understand why yet.

So why learn QA if I want to hire an outside QA, well because I want to understand it first of all, but also with the current rules my hubby could potentially keep the shipping going while the QAP is sick or on holidays. Out in the sticks this is an even bigger issue.

I have come full circle on this issue and now believe that this position should be filled from an outside position but realize the difficulty in having enough work for them in a small facility, that is the ruse. Seems to me the reason why we are seeing many of these positions paid in shares and such. There is a lot more to this position then I thought at first and it is standard for all industries.

My original interpretations were pretty far off the mark, but we are dialing them in with all the help we are getting from this forum and all the wonderful people who post their experiences in the process, thanks everybody! Don't hesitate to PM me if you have a question you can't ask here. If I don't know, seems like I know some one who does. I'd love to pay it forward and I usually learn something to boot!

Your right Prairie Plant Systems (magenta thumb), you would have known. You are over simplifying a bit, but yes I have learned a lot.

Forgive me, I don't think I have anything useful to add to this thread, but the QA may very well be the "tool" HC uses to keep people in the queue until they give up. If for whatever reason they don't like our faces/application.
Thye've kept it vague enough that they can discredit anyone, if they feel the need to.

If this is something we can sign up for, please link or give more info!

Re: The Greenline course. Surely it would be helpful, but it's not like HC has stated that they recognize it or any program. I looked at their agenda and it seemed to be VERY focused on their own QA software.

Someone pasted a response a while back, apparently from HC. The response suggested that a "Chartered Accountant" might be an example of good choice for QAP. THIS was inspiring, considering the lack of QAP definition.

Assuming that's correct, I gather they are looking to be impressed with the paperwork, primarily the QA Report and SOP's. I have developed a database for creating SOP's, including an SOP for creating and modifying SOP's. ;)

The database is created in Filemaker, providing semi-auto generation of SOP documents. Each document is 2 pages, plus a flowchart. The person performing a given task, will have immediate access to step by step instructions, both in text and visually via flowchart. If they don't approve me as QAP, and it seems that adding a Chartered Accountant as QAP will cover the gaps, that seems reasonable and I have one in mind.

I HOPE I'm on the right path...

imo, what we think, don't count. I tried 2 avenues with a solid 25yr grower ect and they denied him. so the theory of a top grower being QA don't cut it. they will tell u the same lines, imo u need a 10+yr QA person, they need to be able to do QA, have done QA, a masters in biology. my QA is a master brewer, phd in nuclear physics, designed his own QA for brewery, does his own QA, built his own reports for QA, wrote books on QA in breweries & nuclear physics. stainless steel welder.
he is not doing my lab testing. he is and will be 100% responsible for the entire site and any issues. it will be all on the QA person so they need to be very educated to understand the concept of QA to a T
they never said anything about him, on to the next stage.
ask a pharmacy for their QA
I think any large site with a lab tech, or master biologist, and science people will have no issues with QA.
any grower stoner who has the skills, will not come close, imo. even thoe we have more skills for mmj/mj than any science geek.
Hi, thanks for your post! Can you provide more info on how long it took them to process your application and then to respond?

I am one of the many prospective LPs looking for clarification on what would qualify a person to do QA in HC's eyes. In my case, I hope to do it myself. Here are my qualifications:

- I have a 3 year Environmental Technologist diploma. The focus of my studies included: plant biology, microbiology, chemistry, auditing and QA, ecology, dendrology, forestry, data collection and technical report writing. The program had a huge laboratory component and half of my course time involved data collection/lab work/ report writing.

- Prior to graduating from this program, I worked as a project manager for a forestry services company who handled everything from running greenhouses, to managing treeplaning/ecological surveying contracts. As the project manager, I was directly responsible for quality assurance in all of these operations.

-Since graduating from school 5 years ago, I have been working as a drinking water treatment technologist for a water utility of a bigger city. Myself and others in my position run a multi-million dollar drinking water treatment plant, where the #1 priority is providing safe drinking water to our customers. Most of my job involves QA and related lab work to ensure that our water exceeds all of the strict standards set by Environment Canada. My job involves frequent development of SOPs and analysis of complex lab data, both requirements of HC.

From your experience, do you think I would qualify based on this? These are only the Coles notes, I could go into much greater detail and will do so on our application.

I think you'd make the cut. As a general note to all folks asking read your chosen Pharmacopeia and if you understand (understand well) what is written, can follow the procedures as scientifically intended, interpret the results properly then you should be able to pass. And no an accountant isn't good enough. I mean really, an accountant...come on.

Thank you very much for your opinion and input. Those were the Coles' notes, I can go into much more detail on the formal application. I really hope I make the cut, do you know if there is a way to pre-approve the qualifications of the QA person before submitting the entire application?

My comment was sort of a general expression of WTF to such propositions, nothing going your way personally :)

Start to believe this more and more every day.
If you read the regulations, it clearly states that they cannot deny your application unless you fail to supply the necessary information. In order to facilitate this happening, they keep asking for new QA people, SOPs, etc with a shorter time line.

This time around, how many people can find a dedicated QA person in the 2 week deadline? They may just be doing this to clean house of applications. On another thread someone mentioned they might be closing the process to new applicants soon - maybe they're trying to wrap everything up?
