Ok, I'm not a noob, but I've only done 1 grow in the past 8 years. Prior to that I had about 5 years' experience that was cut short by several sheriff's deputards who kicked in my front door and dragged me into my yard at gunpoint after getting a bogus search warrant.
Anyhoo...I'm in a new environment that's friendly to growers so I decided to try it again!
Here's my setup:
Aeroponic multi-site unit, GH 3 part nutes with several of their supplements, all of which are also from GH.
1x1000w HPS
I have 4 plants:
1 Sour OG from clone
1 Purple Elephant from clone
1 Ice from Nirvana seeds
1 White Rhino from Nirvana seeds

I've been battling spider mites I picked up from the clones. I've used a combo of Azamax (3 applications spaced a week apart) and low suction from a small shop vac to remove them mechanically. I caught them early before they had much chance to fester. So far I've been pretty successful at stopping them.

I'm about 5 1/2 weeks into flowering. The buds on both the Sour and Elephant are dense as all get-out, and looking beautiful. The trichs on them are still 90% clear. Both of them are smaller than the other 2 plants.
The buds on the Ice are starting to gain density, and I'm hoping that the calyxes will begin to swell in the next week or 2 and give me the density I'm looking for.
The White Rhino is very branchy with lots of long 6 inch+ kolas. I've trimmed the bottom sucker buds from all of the branches, hoping the plant would focus on growing fat, dense donkey d1ck kolas. I've tied the Rhino kolas using LST to encourage the kolas to fatten up but it doesn't seem to have had much effect. Unfortunately, I think I've allowed too many branches on it and should have pruned more of them prior to going 12/12. The rhino took a week longer to show first flowers, so technically it's probably only 4 weeks into flowering. Trichs on the rhino are still clear and are just starting to 'capitate' so I know I've got at least 4 weeks left before harvesting them, if not longer.

My question is this: Is it too late to worry about pruning some of the less dense buds and branches from the plant in hopes of getting the remaining white rhino's kola calyxes to swell and get compact? Since I'm only growing for personal use, I'm more interested in quality over quantity. At this point in the game should I just finish out what I have, smoke the best and hash the rest? I don't want to stress the plant too much by doing anything drastic this late in the game. In the pic of my cabinet, the Rhino is the large plant on the left.

don't prune.

the sour is done, pull that bitch. the others have 2-5 weeks left. patience, grasshopper, is a virtue.

and the borg (spider mites) suck blue whale balls soaked in sperm whale semen.
dirt and cat....
Thank you both for quick responses. Yep, I'm sure I'm just being impatient. Typical of new growers and those of us who haven't grown in a while.
@cat of curiosity: My microscope is showing the trichs are still all clear on the sour. I've always waited until most are cloudy and sometimes even a few are starting to turn amber. I've never done Sour before though. Do you think it would be best to wait til the trichs turn more cloudy? Thanks again for the input!

that's entirely up to you. it's swollen, calyxes bubbled out, pistils receded, it LOOKS done from a glance. if i were you, i'd take a nug and quick dry it today, try it tomorrow (no microwave or oven bs). take another bud tomorrow, rinse and repeat. try to find your goldilocks zone.

foxtails on the top of buds are due to the light being too close. you can move that light up a bit after you see its not stretching anymore usually week 5ish.

Quick update: I pulled half of the Purple Elephant and Sour OG last week and the other half today.
Week 6 +/- on the white rhino and Ice. I wish I weren't so obsessed with growing. That's why I keep going out to check on them. It's also why it seems to be going so slowly.
Trich's are still mostly clear, some cloudy, no ambers. I culled 2 smaller buds just to trim them and check them out. They definitely still need some time. It doesn't look like the calyxes have done their "thing" yet on either of these plants. Pistils on both are still totally white, especially on the Rhino. I'm amazed at how many big kolas are on them. If/when they do pack on some calyx weight I'm going to have my hands full. Literally.
First pic: Dried sour OG
2nd: Dried Purple Elephant
3rd: Main Ice kola. Damned thing is the size of my hand
4th: wide shot of the cabinet. It's 4'Wx2'D for reference
5th: White Rhino kola

Thanks again for advice fellow growers.

I just got back from Christmas vacay to find that our power must have gone out at some point while I was gone. As such my plants, which are in late stages of flowering had their timer thrown out of whack. They've still only been getting 13 dark, 11 light, but the times that the light switched on/off was obviously thrown off during my absence. With no way of knowing when it happened, should I switch the timer back to the correct time or just let it ride?
