I have a basic question about HID systems... I'm looking on EBAY for a MH/HPS switchable setup and I found one I am extremely interested in. However, I'm in a 2x3 growing space. It's a 400w setup. I wanted to use a 150w or 175w max. due to heat issues... If I buy a 400w system, can I use LOWER wattage bulbs in it? Can I use a 150w or 175w in a 400w socket? I'm assuming you can because you can in incandescent sockets. BUT, incandescents aren't run by ballasts... I'm not sure if you can only run a 400w lamp OFF a 400w ballast ONLY... Please let me know if my assumptions are wrong...
I want to get the 400w if I can use lower wattage for now because in the future we are going to need a 400w. Thats why I would like to get it instead of a 150w. But if I can't use different lamps I'll have no choice but to buy a 150w system.
