Question On Cloning

Ok, today im ready to take clones from my 3x mother.

its been a while since ive used the gel solution i have: Olivia's cloning gel. Had good results last batch i did, however some pups didnt root....

Now i do know that cloning gel solutions have the "ability" to become "contaminated" and no good for use... my question is WHAT contaminates the gel, and if this is the case, how can i tell if the gel is contaminated.

any and all info is appreciated.

thx in advance.

dirt,bacteria,chloroform.....mainly..... if you put the desired amount in a small container (soft drink bottle lid etc) and seal up the gel and store it in the dark/cool...each time you use it...then it should be fine...good luck with that :^)

yes a humidity dome is being used. im going to try absolutely no nutes/water in the bottom of the tray, as opposed to my 1/4" of water w/ very little rooting nutes.

hope i get better results this time.

I wish i had the cash to get some clonex... but the damn hydro store here is a ripoff.... nearly $50 for a 100ml bottle

yah some say no nutes and some say just a little. i like to wait til i see the first sign of plant response

Ok, clone taking is done, dome is up, room/light arrangement changed, mother fed and being closely monitored. all good.

jats, c5r: thanks very much to you both, cross your fingers for me! Oh and i will try to update the progress every couple of days.

yah i hope it goes good, this the most stressful time for any grower i believe... or waitin to see if you burned your plants after adding nutes

Do not let your cloning gel touch ANYTHING while it is in the jar, dump a little bit out, without touching any of it, onto a piece of wax paper or something, then replace the lid and use the stuff you dumped out to dip the stems into. You must be sterile because the cloning gel contains the perfect food source for bacteria to feed and grow on, bacteria are everywhere so keep it sterile. If you do touch it to something its probably best to throw it away and buy a new one after it gets used that time.

Thanks for the input. Appreciated.

Im just hoping that my gel is not contaminated. Last time i took clones they were just sitting in the tray with no dome, only about 35% humidity for them, and i had water in the bottom of the tray. I pretty much botched my first batch (pardon the play on words bongsmilie ). Yes i did dip the clones directly into the solution bottle which was a mistake, however, my tools are always sterile and i only cut from healthy plant parts. So with a little luck and wishful thinking I am giving it another go. Hopefully it goes well. And now that i have been informed of the different possible outcomes I'll be prepared for any success/failure i face now.
And for that i thank ya .

Mmmmmk, about 24 hours later and the clones look ok. Not as droopy as they were last night. My mother didnt even flinch from me taking clones... so im not worried about her much.

anyway, ill be back late tomorrow to further update. Until then ....---> bongsmilie
