Can I use a res that is only 6 inches deep? Also do I need dividers in it to seperate roots? Thanks.

Sure you can, but you will need to make sure you have plenty of room for air stones and make sure that your roots have proper contact with the water initially when you transplant. I wouldn't expect you to grow tree's in that though.

BigV, what you are prosing is not really ideal. How many gallons will it hold and how many plants do you intend to put in it? If you plan on moving them into something else keeping the roots separate would be nice but, I wouldn't worry about it. If you are going to finish them in there then it doesn't matter at all.

Ideally you want at least a 10L bucket/res.. those roots get big & very quickly even in veg.. 6 inches is okay for the first few weeks but you will need to upgrade to a much bigger bucket or res.. If you plan on transplanting I would have them in separate buckets to start with.. coz those roots will get tangled & you'll have a nightmare getting them out without shocking them

Thanks for all the responses folks. The tub I wanna use is 35"x16"x6 and it holds 7 gallons. I wanna put 4 plants in it grown 12/12 from seed. I could use a different tub but this one will give me a bit more height.

That should be okay if you are keeping them all in there from seed until harvest.. just make sure you have enough airstones & keep the res topped up regulary

I have 2 10" airstones which I think will be ok but if I am wrong let me know and keeping it topped up shouldn't be a problem as I check on my plants 3-5 times a day looking for 1/4" of growth lol.
