Alright, so i've been havin trouble in the small space I have to grow finding a decent way to veg my plants in a 3 by 2 area... I went to home depot and bought a flourescent tube fixture that holds 2 24 inch tubes... they are T12 bulbs and I ended up purchasing "Plant And Aquarium" 20 watt bulbs along with it... I just hooked it up last night and just got it going, I have 6 seedling sprouts I put under it.... Do you guys think this will be sufficient for a while ? Or am I going to need much more lighting, let me know guys so I can take this back it it's a whack idea, thanks!

T-12's are very old, outdated technology, after that came T-10's and T-5's You want T-5 HO's HO = High output.

t-5 is better, but what you have will work for now. you wont have much success with the plants once they get a bit older tho.

With that little light, your sprouts will "streatch" very fast, and probably be 6 inches tall with 2 leaf sets. Its enough light to start something, but not enough to grow them small and tight.

If you continue to use florecents, you will have to keep raising the lights as your plant gets lankier and taller... and this really screws them up because the lower branches and leaves wont get very much light at all.

Get better lighting for better results. What you have will work, but your plants will be tall and lanky, and the buds will be sparse and fluffy (not dense). I would suggest 400 HPS or MH at minimum.

Some guys are pretty crafty and get a BUNCH of CFLs and keep them very close to the plants to pull off low budget growing. Ive gotten results with 2 full sets of 4' florecents and a bunch of side lighting, but it was too much work for too little results.

Big fat lighting = big fat buds

I'm started some bag seeds under 4 f20t12's from lowes using 2 cool white and 2 warm white. I have a small closet and the lights 2 inches away from plants all the time. Nothing fancy, just trying to save my money for the 400 mh/hps kit. I germinated 20 seeds and 15 came up. Pretty good percentage. 21 days later i have little cuties about 5 inches tall. First time trying the inside grow but after tons of reading on this addictive website, in about another few weeks either i kill half of these bsbies or I come up with some money to add some more lights.. SET it up and grow... I keep them really close so they don't stretch

You can get three foot t5ho fixtures at fish stores and online. These would be ideal if you are set on fluorescents. Philips plant and aquarium bulbs aren't very intense.
