Quick One Auto Fem x 2 / 250W CFL Closet Grow

1st time soil grow - small growbox – seedling stage ( 1 auto QuickOne LST & 2 photoperiod unknown LST+topping ) Mutual Growth


After tons of reading, I decided to develop a mutual grow schedule.
I am planning a grow of auto and photoperiod with same light schedule. First I’ll veg unknowns (hopefully females) until harvesting auto under 21/3. Then, while unknowns are flowering, i will veg the clones of the auto under 12/12. After unknown’s harvest, I’ll switch back to 21/3 for clones to veg properly. I will probably get rid of the unknowns after that for trying different strains.

LST technique for a fast auto seems the most logical since there is almost no need for recovery time. For unknowns, i will top once or twice in early or mid veg, and than LST them too. I have a total of 75-80cm together with lightning (15cm) and pot height (20cm) . I need to keep them really low. I can only get them 20-30cm close to the lights with the setup detailed below. Im not sure if i can keep unknowns low enough while auto reaches the harvest time. ANY suggestion much appreciated!



Grow Box Specs:
Net space 45 x 45 x 75 (cm)
Aluminium foil / mylar covered
170 cfm 220V fan (exhaust) top right
70 cfm 220V fan (intake) bottom right
25 cfm 12V fan (circulation + lamp cooling)
Replenish all air in every 3 mins
Height adjustable 176Watt cfl (2x65W plus 2x23W)
Around 12000lumens with 36000lux efficiency

I am using small water container and a wet shirt with humidity around %50 day / % 65 night (planned for veg phase)
Temperature 29-30°c day, 24-25°c night (expecting 2-3°c drop in next months)

Not satisfied parts:

This is far from being a stealth grow box indeed its more like a small vacuum cleaner. 46db + 36db ?? i dunno if these accumulate J What can i do to improve without raising temperatures?
Other shortcoming is the height. With 15cm soil height + 20cm lightning, all ive is 40cm. Lst’ing auto and lst+topping the other one may be a solution. I’d appreciate a suggestion here since tis my 1st grow.

Soil & Nutrients:

Some german brand soil + perlite + vermiculite (7 / 2 / 1 ratio)
I acquired perlite and vermiculite because the soil mix seems to be insufficient of those.
Hesi Soil starter kit (not yet started to use)


Watering:

In every 2 days without getting the top dry out completely.

In the first few days of seedling stage, I underwatered because of misguided info from several websites. I let the top dry out and figured out its not ok in this stage and plant was kinda shocked. I saved the plants and hope this experience let them root downwards a little bit more.

i germinated quick one using wet paper towel thing, two others just burried slightly below the surface and popped.

17.09.12 switch to 150cfm duct fan with carbon filter, both sound and heat problems gone.

moriarty (bagseed1) 21 days
ill rename her as unlucky. she was rootbound, had heat stress and a little overwatering in the last 10 days
a recent heat stress because fan went off causing heat spike.



alpha (bagseed2) 14 days
healthiest one, going well.



dennis (quick one auto northernlights ruderalis mix) 12 days
this one had a great shock while repotting, stopped growing like a week, added some more soil and misted for leaf absorbtion and saved her but still tiny for 12days old.

i also germinated another quick one (Whatever) 4 days ago or so and placed in 2 gal final pot.

learning a LOT from my first grow. my grow box became a plant hospital. coping w heat stress, finding optimum cfl height, ph issues, root bound, how not to over water, nute schedule, do's and dont's with autos etc... one of the best hobbies so far.

now have 2 quick one autos, 2 veg stage bag seeds and several crappy seedlings. i'll continue with 3 after sexes appear.

ph meter arrived yesterday, found out that tap water is 7,6, distilled is 8.0! i established a small water treatment facility
placed another circulation fan but its almost not blowing, gonna change it.
started nuting 1/3 in every other watering. if they respond well, will either increase to 1/2 strength or nute/nute schedule.
average heat daytime goes to 85's again because of the crowd inside.
place a few more seedlings, just for observing growth rates with different watering/light distance. gonna give them to another new grower friend who had f.cked all his plants.

so far,

moriarty (LST'ed yesterday, its amazing how the plant reacts so quickly, a lot of side branching boomed, i almost cannot see the main stem of this 5'' plant.) she recovered from several heat and root and overwatering stresses and going well.



alpha (root bound!) need to get a bigger pot, i'll only continue with one of these bagseeds.


dennis (after 2 transplanting, i've learnt TO START AUTOS IN THE FINAL POT). as far as i understand, ruderalis strain comes from harsh environments which requires strong rooting before over-the-ground grow. because of this i planted another auto in 2gal pot which seems to catch the first one next week.



i have to admit, its really relaxing spending time w these bitches. i enjoy observing the growth more than smoking the output.

moriarty 28 days, still too small for that age because of previous stresses she recovered.
(lst'ed about a week ago, new branching goes well, extremely bushy and looking healthy)


dennis 18 days, double transplanting slowed the growth but recovered and well rooted. (lost like 1 week) hope this does not affect budding much.


alpha 26 days, (on the right) rootbound, i got her outta pot and cleared bound roots and put additional soil to the bottom and replaced. wondering if this help, i may try this party cup thing on this one, i dunno.

whatever 10 days, auto flowering quick one, started in final pot, going really well for now.

watering once in 2,5-3 days, started 1/2 nutes and will keep if they react good.

seems like the fan is having hard times sucking air from filtered opening, i will add a 4'' computer fan to intake.

replaced one 32W 6500k with 2700k for a wider spectrum.

I was wondering how you grow was doing and if you were able to clone your auto !! Can you post some pics of the girl's progress ? I will be growing in a similar environment and I am very curious of how you are doing !
How's the flowering under those CFLs ? I might buy the same ones if the do quite well

i brought the oldest bagseed to one of my friends, got rid of others, now left with 2 autos.
quick one auto flowering hasnt that much smell, it has lavender kinda smell. i survive without carbon filter with 2 mature plants airating room several hours a day.
i couldnt calculated nutrient levels well, ignored soil & worm casting nutrient values while feeding than i had some nitrogen toxicity, all leaves turned very dark green, flushed and delayed feeding schedule one week, very little N given. now everything ok.
i also found out that i was using pots very ineffective. filling half of the pot only. next grow will be much better i will try covering top with coco for smooth watering and providing shade for roots to grow to the highest possible.
lights 184W 2700k + 85W 6500k

29cm in height / 0.75 gal soil
this one didnt develop well in veg (stunted growth) budding concentrated on top cola w 4 smaller budsites.

lessons learnt

1 - if plants are overfed, dont rush flush , just continue giving water just a lil more than regular till the leaves get back to their normal color
2 - you can have dense buds with CFL's, i cannot squeeze a not-yet-mature top cola not even half cm.

i left my home for a full week (light feed before leaving) and my older plant has sucked energy from fan leaves in the meantime.
checked trichomes with 30x, all transparent, calyxs %50 brown. not yet

because of overall size, buds are not so big and sticky but they are everywhere, dense and smells nice. odor is like vanilla but i cannot distinguish well on the first grow.

this is almost twice the size of the first one, lesser the mistakes bigger the plants. 8 - 9 tops without any training, almost 5-6 of them almost like the top cola!

progress
yellow one has a week or less left for harvest. other has 10 days or more. i left them unattended for a full week, yellow one with a very light potting mix dried quickly (just another lesson)

while pistils are like 75% brown, trichs are about to become milky.

i wonder how big i can cultivate an auto. anyway, germinated 4 bubblegum or afghan kush, all sprout, will be seedlings by tomorrow (05.10.12) (another lesson: label everything

tried something: added an inch of soil to the top after last feeding (forgot to include worm castings though) to provide diluted organic nutrients. i just referred to my noob logic

harvested small quick one on 15.11.12 (63 days from seed)trichs were %10-15 amber on harvest, still drying, will get in to jars in a couple of days. (10-15g on the very first run, not that bad huh? got another sample as of 19.11, very pleasant, clear head high which switches to body with slight overdose.pro's: clear, nice citrus-like tempting aroma, smooth smoking, motivational.con's: munchies!, a little dryness in eyes, dont last long, say 1 hour at most with each bong hit.secundo quick one gets heavier every day, im expecting double yield compared to the first one.new seedlings ( afghan kush or bubblegum kush x 4) going well with 2nd set of leaves.
