For me, hydro or soil I wait till they either get to be the size of a basketball or start to flower. This grow I started with bb size and they grew 2 feet in two weeks after 12/12 Go with bb size it works

Your friend didn't know shit. Unless growing an auto flower strain, the size has nothing to do with when it will start flowering. If u got em indoors, changing the light cycle to 12/12 will make them start flowering. If outdoor, it depends where u live for it to start flowering. In Australia around February they will start because the daylight starts to get shorter. Size of your pot has nothing to do with it. Veg ur plant for as long as you can before u flower it, the bigger the plant, the bigger the yield. In theory, if a plant was kept growing under 18/6 or 24/7 light cycle, you could keep it growing for years.

They will not double in size. They will not die if they get too big. They will not die from being in a container that is "too big" but will die in one that is too small. Instead of height go for age. Veg for 1-1/2 to 2 months for good yield if all else is good (lights, water, nutrients, medium, air).
