If I started growing in a double stacked rubbermaid or a tall dresser what would be more cost effective and/or easier to grow with soil or a hydro setup?

If soil, should I just go half and half fox farm ocean forest/light warrior or ..?

If hydro, what would be something I can make or style etc.

i open to suggestions.
 
Dirt is the cheapest. You can use anything you want. You can go with sterile soil mix with no nuits and add your own or get a soil mix with nuits already in it. Loose soil and good drainage is a good idea. Less chance of root rot. READ READ READ if you haven't done soil before. There are a lot of helpful hints on the site.
 
I've been trying to find good topics on soil, but every thread I find on it is people discussing mixing anywhere from 2-5 different types.

i got all my materials to construct my box ready and when I went to the store to get soil I sat there like I never seen any of it and ending up leaving because I had no clue what to get.

I would really appreciate it if someone had a good link to a simple breakdown of soil and what to get
 
I'm currently at Walmart, any soil suggestions? Miracle grow potting mix?

And is there any thing else I may need while I'm here, I got the box made, lined, my lights, all ventilation covered, a timer (light), pots, and seeds.
 
You need to be aware that soil left outside may be contaminated by bug eggs and/or disease. I got thrips from miracle grow soil mix in Home Depot. Try promix. My buddy just finished one and they are all good sized buds.
