Quick Soil Question

One of the big reasons the soil is "cooked" or "activated" is so that a lot of the amendments can properly dissolve. You want the lime to even out the pH of the soil as well as make the amendments more available to the plants (also activates the mycorrhizae in the soil if you use Roots or add it supplementary). As stated above, if you used dry super soil in your plant, as soon as you watered it you would be starting the "activation" process and I would imagine the pH would be out of whack which would have detrimental consequences for the plants. That being said, no one is going to stop you from trying it if you are curious :)

Thanks, I didnt plan on using it, yes I asked if it could be, but just wasnt sure about the activation stuff. I figured it would be bad, but didnt have the first hand knowledge. Thats all I wanted to know. Thank you!

Sorry to hijack thread, but I have a soil question as well.

I have read alot but man the pages just go on and on and im sure the answer is buried somewhere.

On the worm castings, it says 25 to 50 lbs. That is a pretty big gap. Are there reasons to use 50 lbs and other reasons to use 25? Depending on base soil or something of that nature?

No problem bro, I ask q's when I need help and I am happy to help or try to guide in the right direction. I think I read it dont really matter that much. Im only guessing, but say if you use a good base like FFOF or Roots, 25 lbs would be good, but using a lesser base may require using 50 lbs to get the same affects. So, I think you nailed it.

I dont think you quite understand the meaning of hot........... :peace:
Explain then. Does it not mean loaded with nutrients to the point it can burn plants? My question was about UNCOOKED not HOT soil. There is a difference. I just wasnt sure about the activation of the nutrients, and wanted confirmation, which I have received a few posts ago.
