Rain and strains

Hello everyone- so I have been growing for 5-6 years now and started as 1-2 plants in pots and then a few more the next year and so on. This year I decided I was going to gorilla grow and plant directly into the ground with subs mix soil. Anyway, all has been great, I don’t have to go and water like I did with the pots which is a plus. Anyway, for the last month we have had these pop up showers almost everyday and I have lost 2 plants so far to bud rot/overwatering. Some were 7-8 feet tall, but some are doing great. Bummer. But you live you learn.
Anyway, for next year. Are there some specific strains that I should look for that do better with over watering if we have another summer like this than others?
And as far as drainage, any thing that I can do better for next year?
Thanks for any help

Adding chunky perlite will help drain things and dry the soil out faster. ProMix HP has extra perlite and I don't need to add any.
I would think strains from the jungle areas of the world would be best in a very damp area. Mine always rot so I should try for strains that finish AFAP= As Fast as Possible

Composted manure can't be beat either.

Are you losing plants to bud rot or root rot? If you have compact soil you can plant a cover crop to loosen up the soil naturally during the down-season, some cover crop species will also fix nitrogen. You can also Increase the amount of aeration in your soil, lots of different options for that like perlite, lava rock, rice hulls, etc.

Losing plants to root rot.. next year I will do a better job of soil aeration, as you mentioned. I did not take into consideration the amount of rain we sometimes get.
Thanks for your reply!

How is your native soil? Is it very compact or heavy clay with poor drainage? You might also consider taking other preventative measures like using actinovate or mycostop in your soil to help prevent any fungal pathogens in your soil.
