i'm not a scientist but i'm pretty sure even wild dogs eat plants, even if it's only a small part of their diet. i did a quick google search but i didn't feel like wading through all the crappy yahoo answers and whatnot but the first result was a dog food consumer website (which may have its own bias, i didn't really check it out that thoroughly but it cited some sources. close enough. it's 3:30 am) that pretty much concluded that dogs have a strong carnivorous bias in the wild, but domesticated dogs have evolved to thrive on a bunch of stuff . it talks about the type of teeth they have and gut enzymes vs saliva enzymes and whatnot.Should dogs be eating vegetables, I mean, does it benefit them in any way like it does with humans? Most wild dogs don't eat vegetables at all and as far as I know are pretty much strictly carnivores.
As for raw meat, I was wondering if there is any heightened risk for something like salmonella with animals? I feed my dog cooked meat if there's extra left over sometimes, he loves the shit and it's gone within seconds, but couldn't raw meat have parasites in it that would be harmful?
I am no vet, but 3 1/2 pounds sounds like way too much food per day for a puppy, especially a beagle mix?? Bet he's a shitting machine.I have a 4 month old beagle pitt mix.
Her diet, although changing quickly, is a raw organic chicken quarter in the morning or about a pound of raw organic turkey hamburg.
Lunch for her usually consist of a raw organic turkey neck with about a pound of raw organic stew beef.
Dinner is where she gets her organ meats which for the time being has been cow liver mixed in with about a pound of either organic raw chicken, beef, or fish. She also gets 2-3 soft boiled eggs per week mixed in with her lunch.
Indeed way too much. A dog will eat its shit or other dogs shit, grass, rotten meat and whatever. My vet said "just feed them normal store bought food and don't change brands too quickly". Sound advice for years. Read the back of a dog food bag or look at the pictures to see how much food your dog should be eating. Pretty simple.I am no vet, but 3 1/2 pounds sounds like way too much food per day for a puppy, especially a beagle mix?? Bet he's a shitting machine.
Thanks Sunni! That looks like good quality cat food. It's so hard to find decent quality anything and then you find it's made in China and I don't trust those labels! No matter what my Gubmint says!i feed my cat this while i dont prepare her foods myself i found this to be the best bagged brand honestly it stinks like fish so much
it is also made in my country which i feel good about

Dogs are dogs, even though domesticated they are still wolves.Well I have a kinda disgustingly funny story bout dogs and meat. I had a deer hanging in my tree letting her bleed out so I could butcher it. I pulled it up as high as I could so my dog couldn't reach it.
Absolutely drove him nuts. He was convinced I brought this thing home and hung it in HIS tree as a toy and snack for him. He would stand up on his hind legs but he could just barely reach the head.
Well I let it hang overnite and the next day I go out to see that he had eaten literally the entire face off of this thing. Looked like something out of a fucking horror movie, eye all buggin out and shit. Damn gross. He was very pleased w/himself.
It gets better: A little bit later the school bus came through dropping the kids off. It was quite funny seeing 50 little noses pressed up against the glass of those bus windows. The looks on their faces...... priceless
Good questions. I believe they would benefit from eating vegetables to get various nutrients not found in animal products but I am not positive hos much they require. I know dogs chew on grass but i havent met many that will eat straight raw vegetables. I have gotten mine to eat a few fresh fiddle heads but thats about it. As far as the parasites go, to my knowledge, raw meat does not contain parasites because parasites are found exclusively in the digestive tract. Now I am sure a parasite/worm would thrive off from raw meat if the parasites were present but thats not the case with my puppy here. No worms in her poop yet. Your other question is about salmonella, it is my understanding that dogs can digest just about anything thats non toxic to them. My ex girlfriends mother has been feeding a raw chicken leg to her 3 dogs every morning for the past few years and they havent had any problems. On of the dogs problems actually went away after the switch, and he is 9+ year old golden retriever. The other is a 1 year old Australian Shepard and a 2 year old Great Pyrenees mountain dog. They all eat mostly raw and couldn't be healthierShould dogs be eating vegetables, I mean, does it benefit them in any way like it does with humans? Most wild dogs don't eat vegetables at all and as far as I know are pretty much strictly carnivores.

Good idea lol but i must say that i believe dogs eat cat shit because their bodies are starving in nutrients and they are willing to try anything to satisfy the hunger. A healthy dog doesnt need to get into the trash because their bodies are nutritionally satisfiedlol before this gets any heated ima just out say it
dogs will legit eat cat shit out of the litter box HAHAHAHAHA
It averages out to about 3 pounds per day for her and it will decrease with time. she is a growing puppy that needs 3 meals a day where a 2+ year old dog should only have 1 full meal a day. As far as the shitting, its normal i guess lol no diarrhea or constipation and no accidents inside the house. She runs and plays a lot with other big dogs, pretty much all day, so i think she is burning off the calories and using the protein to develop and grow.I am no vet, but 3 1/2 pounds sounds like way too much food per day for a puppy, especially a beagle mix?? Bet he's a shitting machine.
I want to try the tripe with her, i hear its really beneficial. Its cow stomach right? Knowing what i know, i would say that this is where the parasites come from because there are no parasites in raw meat, only organ meat from the digestive system. But yes my dog will be regularly treated to inhibit parasites, naturally of course. I can only imagine what that over the counter de wormer does to a dog's digestive tract. We had a Rottweiler bitch for thirteen years and she was fed on raw tripe the smell was horrific but she loved it, the only thing with feeding dogs raw meat is that you have to make sure they are wormed regularly. she also liked oranges and apples and pears an would eat any veg except sprouts she hated sprouts. My dog Ted is fed on the little cartons of the posh dog food especially for little dogs but he also loves pasta especially with bolognaise sauce he is well spoilt.
Being worth the time and effort depends on how much you value your pets life and health. Although i am very busy throughout the day I still find time to feed my dog. I'm not worried about her having a taste for blood because all dogs get some blood in their mouth at one time or another whether its by licking a cut or a raw meat diet. Maybe she will start hunting for her own food so i dont have to do it for her lol jkI had 4 rotts over the years and read about raw meat diets but I don't think its worth the time or effort. It also makes good dogs have a taste for blood which isn't good. It was hard to get home owners insurance with my rotts living here.
exactly. like i said before, raw fat is still fat but cooked fat is greaseAlot of the working dog kennels in Germany still feed their dogs raw chicken as the main staple. It's cooked meats that will fuck your dog up.
I didn't realize there was a nutritional/digestive difference. cnexactly. like i said before, raw fat is still fat but cooked fat is grease
