Re-using hydroton clay pellets.. Help!!

Hi, i decided to start over after experiencing a bad case of root rot.. :(....
everything just started dropping like flies. Well I wanna re use my hydroton. Is it even a good idea??? If so what's the best method of cleaning it since its probably holding a lot of bacteria in it.

I would just chuck it and start fresh. You could soak in bleach water, then rinse for a while... but why risk getting more rot or too much bleach residue in the next grow.

As allready said throw that shit out, instead of hydroton try hygromite or hydrorock, both are made exactly like hydroton & the same clay material, only difference is it looks like real rocks & locks together better in the pot,its heavier too & wont float.

My options would be bleach soak then heat. Check how to reuse filter charcoal for fish tanks. Just do not let the wife catch you.

well if you on a budget and really need to reuse that stuff some bleach water well do the trick soak for 24 hours ...if you can use a screen small enough to let roots and stuff last time threw but not hydroton bleach will evapoate off quicker in higher temps ...'

if you clean it right you wont have problems

use hygrozym it breaks down the dead root matter
you should have bought the hydroton because it is reusable

Soak in bleach at 4PPM and then rinse.
Don't buy into the lazy consumerism and paranoia that is going on here..
If you think throwing out hydroton instead of cleaning it is lazy, paranoid consumerism you would really think im nuts,i throw everything out each grow, air stones, medium, net pots ect,it all goes in the trash.

I cleaned all my net pots one time & i learned my lesson, the shit gets filth everywhere & takes too long,it took me a 14 hour day to clean all my shit that i now throw out,if i was still using filthy ass hydroton as a medium i'd throw the table out too, shit nasty's up everything & imo is useless.

I have found that putting it in the oven at 300 or so for a couple of hours works wonders at getting rid of harmful bacteria. IMO though if I lost my whole crop to root rot I would scrap it all and start over. If I were you I would look into using Duthcmaster zone which in a sterile res works wonders at preventing funk in your res, I started using it about 2 years or so and have never looked back. I also use H2O2 when cleaning my supplies but you have to remember to keep adding it to the material being cleaned until it no longer foams which can take a while, which is why I moved to the oven first then a rinse. YMMV but this method has worked for me since I moved in doors to DWC.

ive grown now 3 times on same batch. Just get a big azz pot and fill halfway with hydroton and then 3/4 with water. Boil the water for 10-15 mins
