leds or hps? if your using 660nm light itll cause more stretching, adding blue will reduce stretch, if you just use blue leds you can have a very close node structure comparied to just red, nicer longer colas with less stretch.

only half true, flower is induced when the plant has reverted its Pfr to Pr (please read about phytochrome manipulation and cryptochrome manipulation) and flowering is induced at about 9~ hours of darkness with pfr convert back to pr, red lignt (like 660nm) "wakes" the plant up and cause its 660nm light it then converts the pr back to pfr and it starts flowering again, then at lights out theres no red light and the plant converts it back to pr over a 2~hr period, this can be manipulated by using far-red or near-infrared light (740nm) to induce pfr back to pr near instaneously, thus flowering for alot shorter
periods, you can do 13-9 schedules if you wanted even 14-9 with some strains.

Flowering is induced by photo-period, which takes 12 hours of darkness, not 9...
Red light is good for chlorophyll A and, D. However blue light is still useful in flowing, in fact, white light is best weather you use leds or hps/mh because you get a wide variety of radiation needed to excite not just chloroplast but carotenoids. There are several biochemical pathways in plants, and 1 spectrum doesn't do it for plants.

Yes they will use more reds in flower, more blue in veg. UV light is important, but too much with degrade the thc quicker, and with germicidal spectrum (280nm) out right kill plant cells.

Red light happens to be the light most emitted in fall by the sun due to angles caused by seasons. Perhaps plants akin to this in time and evolved biochemical pathways to best utilizes this light when flowing and seeding is very important before the frost kills the annuals. Whether or not red light is useful in veg, which I'd say white and blue would be ideal, blue absorbing chlorophyll will harness energy and transfer it to red absorbing chlorophyll in your flowing stage too.

Thank you Silicity I'm using MH and switching to hps. I am unfamiliar with 660nm and led. My question is based on a person telling me to put any kind of red light only- for 5 days, and insulting me by saying "you havn't been growing very long have you!" I was wondering if using strickly red light inspires some kind of early growth spurt before switching to hps? I see red may stretch and blue will make close nodules, still I don't understand much about this period or technique.

If I was to experiment with using red only for 5 days before turning on the hps, it will be important to take in to account the 12 hour cycle to initiate the bloom, thank you hex
 
I have yet to obtain knowledge regarding the effects; using only red light, before switching to hps. I'm told doing red only will have some growth impact, thank you for reminding me to pay attention to the 12 hour cycle, if I decide to experiment at all with red only. From the info I've gathered here multi color or hps may have the same result. Any more ideas please share thanks seattleherboss

You didnt even take the time to look up what he was saying before you responded and said he was incorrect had you it would have been a great learning experience. Although most people dont want to find out if the truth they just want to be right in this day and age which is why there is so much misinformation and a huge divide in society, but i digress long story short 730nm does put plants to sleep allowing you to be able to run longer daylight periods i have done this myself and if you still dont believe me or him take 5 minutes and do some research.

I'm curious about the longer daylight periods.

Google Emerson effect. You use 730 nm to put the ladies to bed faster, therefore you gain time that can be spent for more light time.
660nm + 730nm together uses photosynthesis system 1& 2 , so more growth albeit branchy growth.
