Removing lower bud sites

!00% correct, when I used blumats in coco the results were way better than hand watering. Problem is they can be a pain in the ass to calibrate, but once they are I think it is the best method for coco. You can get the same results in ebb n flow by using hydroton as medium and flooding table every 2 hours.
Yeah I suffered issues with N because of no run off, heavier or lighter feeders and an open space where light intensities vary more. They are very good but need a specific setup that I was unable to cater too. Multiple res was one fix, but I couldn't be bothered with having to do that.

I am thinking of a drip system next, some run off will mean N won't build up in the lighter feeders and can be done with only 1 res.

You need to balance medium with watering times to keep optimal hydration. Drip systems work great, I'm lazy so I like ebb n flow, less tubing to set up. I run a sterile res and use Dutch Master Zone so I never change water out until flush, I save a lot on water and nutes and still produce above top shelf dank.

I do the opposite, I leave all the lowers and remove every fan leaf. When I flip to flower they are twigs with budsites. Need some maintaining throughout flower but you will have rock hard nugs top to bottom, bigger yields and very easy trimming. Also reduces the chances of pm and budrot.
I agree with you that whay i do very time it tskes some extra work mine you but results are just as you said buds be hard like a head of cauliflower
