Res change in DWC ScrOG?

Hey all.

I just started a GDP grow in a 5gal DWC bubble bucket. I want to ScrOG but there's the logistical problem of doing a res change with a ScrOG net in place. I know there are pumps that can pull water out and can be reversed for adding water, but I don't want to damage the root system. There's a tube on the side of my buckets for the air pump and I know I could use this to drain if I set my bucket up on a stand of some sort...

Any helpful advice or recommendations? Success stories or links to solutions?

Depending where ur at now it may be too late but think about adding a brain bucket and central reservoir, or at the very least a control bucket, to do this you will have to drill ur 5 gal bucket and connect it to another 5 gal bucket with fittings and pipe, you then do ur res change on the control bucket while recirculating between the two

You can simply add a uniseal, an elbow, and some tubing from the bottom of the bucket.

This doubles for a water level check, and you can turn the tube on the side to dump the water out. Don't forget to prop the buckets up on a few bricks so you can have room to for gravity to drain the water into a container or whatever else.

But next time, try to plan out your grow before you attempt it. This is such a stupid problem to encounter ...

Actually, its in my signature, lol. As you can see there are a few liberties ive taken from my original design. I just use gorilla tape to secure the net to the lid as its easier and cheaper than drilling holes and buying the nylon nuts and bolts and rubber washers.

The basic idea is to create a unitized structure where the lid is one with the screen frame.

Also don't use netpots that big. I use 6" and I think those are even too big. I've actually been buying generic black lids from home depot and using this CZ Hydroponics 4" Wide Lip netpots. Only manufacturer that i've found to use such a wide lip netpot whose OD is exactly 4". I started using them in my 27 gal multi site DWCs but now I use them in my RDWC. I dont do bubble buckets anymore, but still use these screens.

This of course is a much cheaper option depending on how many your making and if you have access to a 4" hole saw.

And the height doesnt need to be 16" I have a16" set and a 24" set of verticals (well diagonals) depending on the plants heights when brought into flower determines which one I want to use. Great thing about not glueing is I can change the screen height and area quite simply.

Also you can drill holes to weave the string through which is what I did in the thread. Or you can use sheet metal screws and screw them into the top and use string to make a pattern which is what I do now. Weaving sucks, but it looks so much cleaner. I wish I could hook up with a cpvc distributor and get that shit unbranded. Id create some jigs, get a drill press and manufacture these things and sell them. Im sure theres a chemical I can use to get rid of the writing/branding.

You are going to want to modify the bottom where it says 2-3/16" you will want those bigger to fit your netpots. Though to be honest if you just transferred which it looks like you have id move them to a smaller netpot. Those 10 inches you have require 3 times the medium you need and don't offer anything besides negatives. DWC the roots live in the water and the quicker you can get the roots in the water the better. In fact I start seeds and clone in aerocloners so i can put the roots in the water from day one.

Cons:
1.) With those large netpots the roots have to push that much further to reach the water.
2.) You will have to top feed for that much longer until the roots hit the water
3.) Wasting more medium
