returning to dwc - a novel in progress

today is 1 week, or maybe 8 days. close enough - i can't remember...

i put them in a plain dwc tub for now while i wait on parts for the rdwc. the roots were popping out much faster than i anticipated and i wanted to take advantage of these girls' potential. i also changed the light cycle from 24/0 to 18/6.

dwc is pretty effective for nursing young clones to health and as i expected the og kush is doing much better already. the blue dream clones have darkened up nicely and have fewer but fatter roots. i have no science to support this but i think once cannabis is rooted it does better with a dark period than just staying 24/0. they may grow faster under constant light but they always seem healthier when they get beauty rest.

i'm feeding at 400ppm with sensi grow a+b, 2/3 dose nirvanva and 1-2 drops superthrive per gallon. pH is climbing faster than i like (probably because of all the organics in the water and the plants' healthy appetite) so i only drop pH to 5.9 and do it twice a day to spread it out so i'm not be dropping more than .3 or .4 each time.

the plan right now is to harvest my flowering room in almost a week, combine all my grow equipment into the flowering space, veg these girls another couple weeks then cut clones and flower. the clones will go into a cabinet i'll be building which will sit in my flowering room. the perpetual part of this grow will take a cycle or 2 to get going so i don't have to cut corners anywhere and i'm still thinking about how i want to setup my veg spot. i'd like to build a huge cabinet for flowering along one wall of the room with the veg setup sitting next to it, the couch along the opposite wall and my hydro/organic wheatgrass on the coffee table.

the rdwc setup is almost fully built, just waiting on 2 more 1/2" valves for the recirc manifold. i had to modify the design as expected but its recirculating 18gal at just over 200gph so that the solution is completely recycled every 10 minutes. i'm also able to adjust pH or solution temp, drain the system, add water or do whatever i want in the 5gal bucket without even touching the plants or the lid of the tub - exactly what i wanted. i was thinking about insulating the setup but i don’t know if it’ll be worth my trouble now that i can swap out frozen 2L bottles so easily.
