reveging and outdoor plant? Any ideas?

I think I read 'somewhere' about overwintering a plant in the ground. I'm not sure of the validity of this but the idea was that after you harvest your plant, leaving a small amount of bud and growth on the bottom of the plant, and using straw bunched up around the plant to protect against winter frost and temps, just leaving it in the ground for the following year. Can this be done? Has anybody tried it? I was of the impression that since marijuana is more of an annual and that it would just die on you after it matured. The ground never freezes where I am ( north central calif.) so the roots would not be in danger and we only get around a week or two of snow amounting to a couple of inches annually.
What ya think, can it be done this way?
I have heard this also and seen it done with another plant besides MJ....I have a Dusty Miller plant that has been in the ground going on 4 yrs now and it flowers every season...from what I know they're supposed to be annuals and yet there it is. Every fall I cover the garden in leaves that have fallen off my Maple tree, so maybe there is some truth to this {cover roots for next season}, but my botany skills are limited and I'm probably talking out my ass LOL

Saved? Is that a nice way of saying you stole it?!?
Nope, guy down the street was moving and we offered to help. I saw the poor little girl sittin in a pot with all the junk in his backyard. And she was flowering at only 8 inchs high or so. He said take it! He also hooked us up with a piano, mantis composter, a bad ass vibrating rock polisher and a big ass tote of old power tools.
Thieves are liars and liars are the scum of the earth, by the way!.

But back to thread.... Im trying a reveg to hopefully keep for a spring harvest. Obviously some clones are being revegged, but I am right with ya on this experience. GoodLuck "Rand" and go for it! Thats how we grow the green thumb!

Like I said befor, I've revegged indoor plants with very good results. I've just never tried it with an outdoor plant. And definenantly not tried it ' In the ground' over winter. Has anybody given this a try? what kind of results did you get? The strain I'm trying to keep going is Mr. Nice which is an Indica strain. I just may leave one or two in the ground outside, and one or two uprooted and re-potted and placed into my grow room just to see what happens. I've got about 3 weeks until harvest and have to figure out how I'm going to save this strain for next year. I'm just so blown away by the plants that I know I have to save this strain. They have the frostiest buds I have ever seen on an outdoor grow. Though the buds are a bit on the small side, the bush is just covered with them.
Again, has anybody tried leaving their ladies in the ground over winter and what kind of results did you get????

I get this is an older post but, i just heard about reveg a couple weeks ago and unfortunately had already harvested one of my girls. I had an amazing somangoXpineapple C99 that I regrettably only took 2 clones from. When harvested i took just about everything. Leaving maybe 4 or 5 small underdeveloped bud sites but no fan leaves. I also let her dry out, forgetting after i harvested that I ripped her out of the perilite mix and had plopped her in mostly hydroton... so I watered her with N about 5 days ago and I was told she wouldnt make it, but I've had her in 24 light now for about 2 weeks and there is now new growth. This is my first experience with reveg, so I will be researching it as well as trying it out. I know its hard to kill a weed so do you guys think she has a chance?
