Revenge of the Noob: Galvatrons 2nd Run

Sup yall, my first real grow ended up with 3 dead sprouts(my fault, bad transplanting) and one mature male. They were from unknown bag seed, this grow will be with Mandala Sadhu seeds. I plant on veggin them for a good while to get some clones, sex them and hopefully have a micro sized perpetual grow going. I've learned alot since my last grow and this run should turn out much smoother.

This is a micro grow with cfls, just thought I'd throw that bit of info out there right now as I know some of yall hate this type of grow so you can go back to reading something else youre interested in. If you are interested in small box type grow then follow along as I test out my green thumb.

The seeds, they look real good compared to bag seeds. Looks like they came from happy healthy plants.

I planted the smallest weakest looking seed first, then another better looking seed 2 hours later. Beans sprouted in 4-5 days, they went directly into soil as Mandala suggests for their seeds. All seeds came up with their shells still attached but after 30 mins above ground they detached.

You can see the shell on the soil next to the plant.

Two more seeds were germed using the wet paper towel method and they sprouted as well. 4 out of 4 germination rate.

The two on the left of the pic are the ones germed in paper towel. They are named Sadhu-03 and Sadhu-04 respectively, the ones on the right are Sadhu-02(top right) and Sadhu-01( the weakest looking bean).

Heres how my lights are set up, its only one 23 watt and one 13 watt blue spectrum cfls with the plants arranged in a circular type fashion for most efficient use of light available. They will get more light later on.

Sadhu-01 on the right and Sadhu-02 on the left. They are looking much better than the ones from the wet paper germination. This pic is from today Dec. 05-07. The seeds went into soil the day after Thanksgiving(Nov. 23-07), this pic shows 1 week of growth above ground.

temps and humidity of my box, the temp is in the range of 75-82 degrees and humidity has been lowered to 25-28%, I have the thermometers out doors sensor in my box.

What Im hoping for is some decent bud, I dont expect to grow enough to supply my smoking habits as it would take way too much space. I also found that simply growing and caring for weed is therapeutic and calming in itself so this is done mainly for fun. Im open to all comments, criticism, whatever, peace.

Whats up man, you look like you got it going. I am looking to get the Sadhu seeds, the high sounds great. I will definitely have to follow your journal. I'm using CFL's too.

Take care and good luck!

Galvatron,

Looks like you're goingt o have a good grow, hopefully it is successful! I'm using CFL's too, and they are doing well; are you planning on using CFLs for the entire grow?

I was also wondering: my grow is coming to a close, hopefully it will be done around christmas (a very merry christmas indeed) and I will need to get some more seeds. Where did you get yours from, and was it easy getting them? How did you decide on the Mandala Sadhu?

Manny thanks in advance,

Rocky, thanks man, I spent two months reading and learning before I started this grow so Im hoping it will be a good grow. I checked out your journal and your plants look nice, you have a lot more height to work with than I do. I'll let you know how she smokes in a few months if all goes well.

Lounge, I got it from drchronic.com and Im in the USA. I paid via money in the mail so there is no record but it takes longer to complete the order. The whole thing took two weeks and thats including the days that the post office took off for Thanksgiving, if paying by credit card or some other direct payment it should only take one week to deliver the package. I had it sent to my real address(stupid, I know) and it got through customs no problem. One thing I've learned from being in the internet sales business is that once the holidays come customs are overloaded with work and they will only check really suspicious looking items not small envelopes or anything like that. I placed my order before Thanksgiving and will be placing another order a week or two before Christmas.

In choosing my seeds I first looked at the seed bank, Mandala has a very good reputation as a seed producer so I decided I would get something from their line up. After that its only a matter of choosing the right type of plant for my growing environment and the buzz I wanted, in my case I have height restrictions so I opted for one of their shorter and faster flowering types. This thread also helped me make my decision:

International Cannagraphic Magazine Forums - My Sadhu Journey.....

Im growing this out fully under flouro's, I may switch to t5 tubes in flower though to maximize my space.

my modular light system, lots of adjustability for bulb placement. watts have been upped from 36w to 62w.

sadhus 01 and 02 are on day 9 and the two little ones are on day 7 above ground.

01 is in trouble. its doing some kind of natural lst thing, main stem is coming out of the ground at an angle and its got some kind of burn.

02 is the best out of the group at the moment. ignore the plant in the rocks.

The exterior of the cabinet.

i used a rail from a gun and a scope mount to mount the light, its adjustable up and down about 5-6 inches, maybe more. no holes cut for fans yet, i still need to pick up two computer fans. im running a regular mini box fan with the door ajar right now, no problems with the temps yet.

test run from my earlier grow.

same hood but different configuration for the lights.

bag o' weed. this is the kind of stuff i've been smoking recently, not bad.

found some seeds in the stash, yess! :hump:they look a little immature but im going to give em a try. i have two germing right now.

have a great weekend.bongsmilie

Hey there Galvatron, big improvement from your last, if in fact that was you who started out in some kind of record or cd case with sprouts in cardboard containers made from some kind of drinks or cereal boxes, yes I was one that was following your first grow and I was wondering what happened to it, sorry to her things didn't work out for ya but looks like you have things under control this round..

Keep up the good work!

I will need to get some more seeds. Where did you get yours from, and was it easy getting them? How did you decide on the Mandala Sadhu?
I heard world wide is a great place to get seeds,

im back and ive got some flowering females to show off. heres the biggest on so far. ive got em flowering outside my window.

very stealthy right?

lst mandala sadhu, im not sure if i did the lst correctly but i got some new bud sites.

different angle of the same plant.

purple stem and leaves.

a little purple on the hairs.

full house.

temp control malfunction, all sadhus survived the heat. mandalas claims of 120 degree coping ability is pretty accurate. the plant were exposed for about 30 mins. one plant was damaged heavily but is stll alive and flowering now.

the sadhu plants have zero smell at the moment. the other bag seed plants i grew out smell alot more. growing in equal parts miracle grow flowering soil and miracle grow peat moss with some miracle grow perlite added to the mix. no nutes have been added yet but i have been watering with molasses since flowering. so far this is a very easy to grow plant.

ghetto bird with flir right outside the window i have the plant at.

hey thanks for stopping by, ive been reading your journal with interest as i have a similar growing philosophy. im trying to grow as cheaply as possible which is why im using miracle grow and water bottles as my pots. so far the only thing ive paid for is the light bulbs, the seeds and the soil.

im not to worried about the choppers, the air space around my area is very busy so its probably just a coincidence they are there. i dont think theyd waste their time busting me for the few plants i have.

keep it growin'.

Wow, yeah, I love the way you have made your space work. I definitely want to see that Sadhu in action. I have seen nothing but good things come from Mandala seeds. I'll definitely be around for this one.

Oh, and your outdoor plant looks awesome. I wish I lived somewhere warm enough to flower in the winter.

pic 1 and 2. out doors sadhu at day 20-22(not 100% sure). getting frosty bongsmilie

pic 3. the large sadhu is yellowing a bit here an there. i need to get some better nutes soon.

pic 4. is one my other flowering plants. this is the bag seed that i posted pics earlier in this journal, its a nice squat indica. out of all the plants that survived 4 out of 5 are confirmed females.

last pic shows two kush seeds that i just started germinating. i put two more of the bag seed i got into germ too, im looking for a good male to make some seeds. theres also some clones growing but they arent doing too good.

sleepytown, yeah i kind of screwed up with the out doors flowering times but its warm enough here for me to get away with it. only problem right now is light pollution at night as im in a densely populated urban area.

if anyone has any suggestions i'd appreciate it. i have a few questions about the larger sadhu:

1. does it look too crowded? will my buds be too close together when they are finishing off?

2. does it look like it has any problems?

i'll have better pics up soon. i can only do a updates every weekend as i do not have time to take pictures on the weekdays. .

i've got plans to buy some more seeds and growing supplies. looking at black jack (black dominia x jack herer) and ketama, a 100% indica land race from morroco that should be kind of like a afghani. i think im hooked on growing.:weed:

sadhu 03.21.08

sadhu 03.21.08

bag seed 03.21.08

all flowering plants moved outdoors. im going to have to control the amount of darkness that the plants get towards the end of flowering. had a mishap with nutes but i think i have it sorted out now. did some pruning of fan leaves to open up some space for light and a slight lolipop job on the lst sadhu. cuttings went into clone/veg box.

out of the two kush seeds only one germed, both new bag seeds sprouted.

4 clones have rooted and 3 of those 4 look like they will have no problem surviving.

the second sadhu plant i havent shown much of in this journal, its the one that had the most heat damage and was fim'ed. shes severely root bound but flowering. i'll have pics of her soon, shes kinda sad looking though. :-|

i couldnt make a plant that looks like a R but i got the I and U. bag seed on left and the sadhu on right.

bag seed nugging up.

i built a black box for the plants so theyll get 12/12, im getting 13.5 hours of light where im at so it has to be controlled. ordered 2 packs of seeds, mandala safari mix and lowryder 2, which should be here sometime next week.

not much growth so no new pics yet but i got my lowryder 2's and my mandala safari mix seeds. i've had 2 out of 2 orders get to me from {seed bank name removed - 04-04-08 glavatron}. :hump: thanks doc!

safari mix sample plant all pics from mandala site

the type im looking for in this pack, chunky weeds instead of the usual hairy type. i've normally seen this type of weed growth on sativas but im not sure if theyre the only ones that grow that way.

the typical mandala hairy type weed.

mandala description:

The Safari Mix contains a mix of seeds from various experimental crosses in our breeder lab. At the moment these are mainly hybrids related to White Satin and Kalichakra (parent plants vary), and they are equally well suited for outdoor (balcony, greenhouse, up to 45° latitude in the ground; further north the harvest time can shift to middle/end of October). The germination rate of our mix is just as strictly controlled as with all our products. Please remember to read our tips on how to plant seeds by clicking the link on the left sidebar.

people talk shit about lowryders but they dont know the reason why it was made. this is a very purpose built plant, not made to be the highest potency strain but made to be grown in unique and varied environments. most people will say, 'well theres stronger weed for less cost', i dont give a shit about that, i can get the best weed in the world right here in cali. all these breeders breeding only for potency is actually weakening the plants in my opinion as some of these new strains are high in potency but very unstable. auto flowers takes weed growing to a different level, not a higher level but different.

heres the history from the joint doctor breeders of the lowryder 2's:

“At one point during my travels in Eastern Europe, I visited a friend whose family lived in a typically small, cramped working-class apartment. The previous summer, when I had first stopped by to visit, I turned his open-minded mom on to her first taste of marijuana – totally unprejudiced, she was immediately taken by the weed’s euphoric effects, exclaiming, ‘I like this better than vodka!’”
“Now, my friend’s mother was attempting to grow some weed on a windowsill, from seeds I had donated on my last visit. I doubted this was practical. ‘Wouldn’t it be neat,’ I began to think out loud, ‘if someone could develop a dwarf type of pot that was meant strictly for windowsills, balconies, and cramped apartments?’”

“The creation of Lowryder has been a lengthy process. Lowryder was borne of a desire to breed innovative cannabis, coupled with the limitations presented by confined spaces in often-changing locations, both indoor and out. From guerilla-style bush patches, to urban basements, to suburban backyards, even the skylight of a camper van, I have tried it all.”
