Ron DeSantis isn't Donald Trump -- he's Donald Trump Jr.

Ex-Donald Trump attorney John Eastman’s comments to Georgia legislators in December 2020 that the Florida Legislature had been prepared to adopt its own slate of presidential electors came a month after Gov. Ron DeSantis was among the first Republicans to float the idea.

Two days after the Nov. 3 election, when votes were still being tallied in several states, DeSantis told Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, “I would also tell (Republicans), especially if you’re in those states that have Republican legislatures like Pennsylvania and Michigan and all these places, call your state representatives and your state senators.

“Under Article 2 of the Constitution, presidential electors are done by the legislators and the schemes they create and the framework,” DeSantis continued. “And if there’s departure from that, if they’re not following law, if they’re ignoring the law, then they can provide remedies as well.”

A spokesperson for DeSantis has not responded to a request for comment on whether something similar had been planned in Florida, and if DeSantis still backed doing so in other states.

Eastman’s statement, played during Tuesday’s hearing of the House Jan. 6 committee, was one of the first indications that Florida lawmakers could have been planning to adopt their own slate of “alternate” Trump electors to the Electoral College if Biden had won the state.

Such a strategy ultimately wasn’t necessary in Florida, as former President Donald Trump won the state by more than 3 percentage points over Joe Biden.

But some Republicans in Arizona, Nevada, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Georgia, where Biden had defeated Trump, had been preparing to go forward with such a plan, according to evidence obtained by the committee.

“You could also do what the Florida Legislature was prepared to do, which is to adopt a slate of electors yourself,” Eastman told Republicans in Georgia, as he falsely claimed fraud in the state that Biden won by about 12,000 votes.

“I don’t think it’s just your authority to do that,” Eastman said. “But quite frankly, I think you have a duty to do that to protect the integrity of the election here in Georgia.”

The plan to get legislatures to select Trump electors in states that Biden won has received increased attention in the last week, due to the televised House committee hearings into the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol and Trump’s efforts to overturn the election.

Pennsylvania GOP voters this month also nominated state Sen. Doug Mastriano as their candidate for governor, bringing renewed scrutiny to a resolution he issued in late November 2020 for the legislature to name its own set of Trump electors despite Biden’s victory there.

Witnesses testified to the Jan. 6 committee this week that Trump was directly involved in the alternate elector plan. Elections officials from Georgia and Arizona also testified about being threatened by Trump supporters for not delivering their states to Trump.

A veteran journalist laid into Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for abusing his power -- and costing taxpayers money -- to aid his re-election campaign.

The Florida Republican, who's widely believed to be eying a 2024 presidential run, has picked fights with COVID-19 experts, Disney World, the Special Olympics and many others in his political rise, but Tampa Bay Times guest columnist Daniel Ruth said DeSantis had reached a new low by pausing a 25-cent reduction in gas taxes.

"It seems a factotum on the governor’s crack staff suggested it might be a swell idea to delay the 25-cent tax break until October, which by amazing coincidence is the month before the November election," Ruth wrote. "Whew! No political mischief at work. Nothing to see here. Of course, the governor could have said, 'Not on my watch! I’m not going to use the fine people of Florida as mere political pawns to advance my electoral prospects.''"

"Instead, he went along with the scam, which only proves we all have a price; it’s only a matter of negotiation," Ruth added. "And Ron DeSantis can be had at 25 cents. Such a deal."

Florida Republicans insisted the tax cut was delayed until tourism season was over, but Ruth said that's obviously ridiculous and not even backed by the state's own tourism data.

"DeSantis is assuming the people of Florida are stupid, that they are dumber than a sack of Matt Gaetzes," Ruth wrote. "It’s not entirely a bad bet. Cynical, yes, but in DeSantis world, the people can’t be hurt by what they don’t know."

I don't know shit about Florida, but I am guessing it has to do with schools being out for the summer and family vacations and whatnot.

Teachers in Orange County, Florida are being told to scrape rainbow stickers off doors and windows, take photos of their families off their desks if they have a same-sex spouse, and are being directed to report if a student comes out as LGBTQ, as Governor Ron DeSantis' "Don't Say Gay" law goes into effect July 1, according to a teachers' organization.

Attorneys for the district held meetings with administrators last week, and "advised principals what behaviors would and would not be legal under the law during a 'Camp Legal' presentation," ABC affiliate WFTV reports.

The Orange County Teachers' Association (CTA) says teachers are also being told they cannot wear rainbows on their clothing, "including lanyards distributed by the district last year." Elementary school teachers are also being told to not even discuss their families if they have a same-sex spouse.

Stickers denoting a particular classroom is a "safe space" for LGBTQ students and others are to be removed, and "teachers will have to report to parents if a student 'comes out' to them and they must use pronouns assigned at birth, regardless of what the parents allow, the CTA reported."

“It will be alarming if our district chooses to interpret this law in the most extreme way,” CTA President-Elect Clinton McCracken told WFTV. “We want them to protect student privacy. We want them to make sure that they’re creating and helping to create safe classrooms. We believe our school board supports that.”

I just don’t understand why Republicans want to elevate Floridas embarrassment to a national level?
Cant win the Republican primary if you don't get that 23-ish percent (at least that was the number in 2016) of the Republican party that are full on fascist cultists to vote for you. And they are looking for the most Regressive Republican candidate that is on the stage.

DeSantis has to compete with Ted Cruz who is just the worst, Russian asset Rand Paul, Abbot who is killing people down in Texas left and right, and Pompeo who sold us out to the Taliban to own the libs. He really has a lot of competition that he has to out crazy.

this is how to fight desatanis...
although really, his own policies will fuck him in the end, as businesses move out of Florida for more sane places, as residents flee his nazi-esque governing style, as tax revenue falls...
wonder how that big fight he was winning against Disney is going?
ooh, he warned them...https://www.businessinsider.com/desantis-says-he-told-disney-to-stay-out-of-dont-say-gay-fight-2022-6

sooo, Disney just coincidentally decides to delay moving 2000 employs from California to florida
https://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/disney-delays-moving-2000-jobs-florida-fight-desantis

it would just make me laugh like a high hyena if Disney decided to just shut down all operation in florida, move all of their willing personnel to different parks world wide, and liquidate all assets in florida...the entire Orlando area would be FUCKED...you take away Disney and you have a mosquito filled swamp and a bunch of retirees and hard drinking ignorant magats.
