just wondering i have heard from several old heads that it is better to dry with the roots still on the plant when hanging upside down....says all the flavor is in the root system...just wanted to get some thoughts on this....its not like my plant is massive just going for the best possible smoke...

IMHO, I don't think it matters one way or the other. What ever the potency of the plant, it is in it at the moment of harvest. A good cure makes the smooth taste, but doesn't increase or decrease strength...again IMHO.
Hell, the only reason we hang them upside down is because the way it branches and buds makes it convenient to hang that way.

Wow, I've never even heard of someone trying this! But I'd love to see an experiment with it if anyone has the guts??

It wont increase the potency at all. Thc is created in the trichomes i think, not the roots thats why we dont smoke roots

I don't think that's what the OP intended when they posted this. I think what the OP meant was to leave the roots intact and to dry the plant with it's roots. As in, yes it would take longer for the plant to dry out as there is moisture in the root system but perhaps some of those last bits of nutrients the roots had soaked up will be able to reach the rest of the plant in time before trimming/for lighting up the cured flowers?

I'm not sure but it sounds like something someone out there has tried but I haven't found any reports on it online

ive done it both ways, not to improve flavor or strenth, just cause i was too lazey to dig em......... so i used a BIG pair of tree pruners and wacked em off at the ground.
