Rosin

Looks like more and more people are getting into pressing their own. This is a thread dedicated to pressing, tips, pointers, hacks, dabbing, dabbing accessories, and any and all things rosin/resin related. Pictures of rosin, resin, live, diy pressed stuff, dispensary bought and anything I've forgotten, all is welcome.

I decided to buy a little 6 ton dabpress for myself and stick it in the grow area. Outdoor this season was decent, despite the terribly wet weather. My favorite of the outdoor is @Useful Seeds blueberry and chocolate. Ive been across the site saying how delicious these terps are. When I heat my bucket just right, it tastes just like the Blueberry concentrate that is pumped into a Slush Puppy. Absolutely delicious. The only problem is it's so sticky, I have to freeze it a bit to be able to collect it. Any advice would be great. I have two bb and choc indoors ready for harvest, I'd like to try some live/fresh frozen with it.
Looking forward to seeing some pictures from fellow members as well as hearing some pressing tips and tricks.

Here’s my press 5x6 plates with inkbird heater.View attachment 5028550
Heres what I generally get out of it View attachment 5028551

I like to press hotter for better yield, I go up to about 200f, 5 Minuit minimum pre press to get the rosin flowing and then do a long and slow press. Usually 5-10g at a time.

Btw I press shwag.
How long of a press? Are you using bags? I've been pressing for 2 minutes @190°.

For flower I find 90-120 are fine and similar results. Only did about 5 runs so far with end goal to go into a vape pen. Usually press about 2 minutes or until flow subsides.
I would press hot, gives a more liquid sap consistency. Can use some bottled terpenes to make it more liquid so it flows in the vape, or heat the vape cart up before each hit to melt the rosin into it. Also I believe a hot cure process will make it a honey consistency.

I just re read and should have clarified 90-120 micron bags. Temps I have tried 205-230 degrees. How hot of a press have you successfully gone to milkyWeed?

I heard you can go up to 220 comfortably, but I don’t like to go over 200f. I have done 210 though. If your having issues with it being too hard to put in the cartridge I would definetly look into hot curing. Most people will set there press plates to 110-130f and hot cure it in a jar for a few hours it helps reduce re-crystallization to make it more of a liquid.

I've not used any bags, just parchment folded. I'm pressing at 190° for no longer than 2 minutes. Yields have been different depending on strains.

Outdoor mids Usefuls Bag of Oranges

Smokes nice but not as flavorful as the blueberries and chocolate
I'm curious to see if there's any difference between indoor and out. I'm chopping the same BOO pheno I have indoors tonight

I’m looking foreword to getting nice light colored rosin like that once I get some fresher stuff. Looks great!!! I dident use bags in the beginning either you get much better yields, I started using bags because I started pressing 10g+ at a time.

Thank you, I'm still very green to pressing but practice makes perfect :) That boo strain has been the darkest I've pressed so far, it really purpled up outside resulting in a little of a darker rosin. It also has more of a peanut butter texture , different from the other strains I've pressed. The texture changes in all strains once air gets to it I've noticed.
I'm only pressing a couple grams at a time, mainly because I like the texture best after it's just been pressed.
I specifically bought a desktop press for this. I could've stuck a full size press in the barn, but I'm glad I went this route.

Usefuls blueberries and chocolate fresh off the plates. This is the return off a couple grams pressed.

I do have to freeze it to collect it, but I really like the shatter like texture. Melts so clean

I've got a couple blueberries inside finishing up, I'm going to freeze some and see how ff is. I'm not real sure if that's being done? I'm clueless to the different processes but I would imagine it is. It will definitely be hard to pick up off the parchment.

How do you like the dabpress. Was gona buy one on black Friday deal but my buddy let me borrow his small one with the lever instead of a jack just to try it out see if it's what I want before I spend a good few bucks on one. It's ok. I find it's not enough pressure on the squish. It works but I think more pressure would.help the return. I pressed at 210 for 90 seconds each time. When you say pre press what do you mean like you fully press it for 3-5 mins? Or just with a bit of pressure to get it warmed up

Pre-presses are molds you use to compress your material into a small brick that easily slides into a rosin bag. It lets you press alot more...i usually do about 20g presses on a 3x5 plate with 10tons of pressure. It also helps minimize blowing out rosin bags or tearing your parchment. I would not press with anything less than a 10ton unless you are doing hash or very small amounts of flower.

I love it. Fits my space perfectly and so far Ive pressed great rosin from my outdoor. How much do you plan on pressing at a time? The dabpress 6ton can press up to 10 grams of flower. Way more than i ever need to. I like pressing smaller amounts to retain that hot off the press texture. I press about 2 grams of flower every other day during the workweek.

I thought I'd be running right through material with this press, but I think I'm actually saving a lot. The potency of dabs is great. Really changed up how I consume my bud.

Edit
What kind of press were you using? It didnt have a bottle jack? In my limited experience, I've noticed returns are a bit strain dependent, some yielding more than others.

Forgot to add that I let my parchment paper ( flower inside) sit on the plates while the unit is heating up. Helps thing flow better
