Round Two, 2012!! Vortex and Plushberry in Super Soil

I'm really hoping Vanessa pulls through and turns out to be a real female lol. I'm going to go buy the rest of my roots for the raised beds today and maybe buy some mycorrhizae spores to put in the holes before I do so. As soon as any of the plants show some pistils I will put them in :D. I may have to find some clones as backup though... :/

Any recommendations on where to get some quality cuts within a few hours of the Sacramento area would be great!

I have separated the male Pam from the rest of the plants. I want to let him grow out a bit more so I can see how the male plant forms and maybe try a few LST tests on it lol. I'm very tempted to collect pollen from him, as he smells very berry like and is growing very rapidly in comparison to the other plants, but I don't know if the pollen I would get would still be usable in 5 months on a few branches of a Vortex or PB, what do you guys think?

I bought some Earth Juice Mycorrhizae spores and put a dusting in each of the holes before I put in another few bags of roots into each. The clay soil around the holes has very poor drainage, and I'm kind of regretting not putting in gypsum first and making these beds last year so they could set. Oh well, maybe I'll do that at the end of this season.... :D

Harborside in oakland has a great selection but I'm kind of skeptical about the quality of their genetics

When I am there with the possibility of buying a clone I only buy the ones that say Darkheart Nurseries on them

If u can make it to San Jose they have great clones at Elemental Wellness center close to 880, I'm actually heading up to sac either this weekend or sometime next week I can maybe stop by for u guys.

There's a harborside and elemental wellness in sj... Both do pretty good with clones. But ya darkheart is the best around. I get my stuff local. A guy out by me grows some TGA, got cuttings of JTR and Pandora's Box from him that were/are bomb.

You mentioned earlier in the thread to me that you picked up those root organic bags of soil (1.5 cubic ft) for about $13 a piece. did you order these on line or pick them up at your local shop? Thanks.

I bought them from a local hydro store.

Plants are looking good, really hoping the others show pistils/pollen sacks soon. I think the 1 gal black plastic pots are holding them back a bit, I'm either going to transplant into the ground or into larger smart pots soon.

Yea it varies from shop to shop around here. About 13-19 a bag, trying calling around.

I realized the pots are getting very hot during the day so I buried them 3/4 down in their final holes just to keep a bit cooler in the root zone. I'm hoping anything will show a pistil soon, or I might transplant them up to maybe 3 gallon smart pots or something? Does anyone have an opinion on this? Problem is I already used my SS in my holes so I can't put any into the bottom of the transplant container (unless I dig some up, of course). Thanks everyone!

Hey everyone!

Well, it's the end of April. This year is really flying by, it's scaring me a bit :-?. When I look back at last year, at this point I had just ordered seeds. I'm so far ahead of last year, this will be exciting to actually see how quickly these plants grow (it seems like their growing rate is a snowball effect, they grow faster as they get bigger!). I think I may see a baby pistil beginning to form on Vanessa which is very satisfying :D. I can't wait to top one of these bitches super low and start main lining . I forgot to get a photo of the male Pam today, but he's still growing much more quickly than the others and his fan leaves are MASSIVE for such a baby plant in a 1 gallon. I really want to transplant soon, so I'm hoping one of the 3 that haven't show me some pistils! Pam showed me his nuts like a week and a half ago lol. No sign of balls on any of the 3 so I'm thinking Vanessa is a girl that hasn't been exposed yet :D, she's a week or two older than Phoebe and Vivian. What do you guys think, should I chance it and put Vanessa in the ground now hoping she shows me some pistils in a few weeks???

Group shot

Phoebe, looking nice and shiny (I love that! the PB's are both super shiny!) Nice and stout with a thick stem and short internodal space. I've been reading the Plushberry picture thread on Subcool's forum, and I think this MAY be the slower growing Space Queen Pheno that has green or pinkish buds, and Pam is the Black Cherry Soda purple pheno maybe. Seems those two are most common.

Vivian on left and Vanessa on right

Vanessa I'm really hoping will pull through female for me. Closely watching for pistils daily... :wall:

Vivian is looking nice as well. I think the wider/shorter pot is affecting the height of her a bit. These two vortex's look very much alike.

Are you going to take it off the pot?? I totally recommend it. The bigger the roots the bigger the plants

Yes, I am waiting for them to show their sex before I plant them directly into the ground. The pots are placed below the surface of the soil so the rootzone stays cool.

I reccomend to make a hole the size of a 7 gallon pot and putting some organic compost. I use kelloggs 7 dollars for 3 cf. you'll prob need 4 of em prob 3. And they will grow even bigger. That will give em enough food for 2 months.

Obviously you didn't look at the first page... lol. I'm using Subcool's Super Soil mix which should feed the plant for it's whole life if not close to it. Each hole is approximately filled with ~30 gallons of super soil mix and 25 gallons of Roots oganic on top. I'm not worried about them being small come fall lol, I'm worried about keeping them low and stable.

Can't you see the hole lol?

Hey everyone !!!

So today I was stressing for my final speech in class and I nailed it, came home, and got an email saying that I was accepted for an Intel internship!!! So I was thinking the day couldn't get any better, so I made some lunch, ate it outside because it's a beautiful day, and thought I'd go check on my girls. To my utter surprise and utmost content, Vanessa had a few tiny pistils sprouted from her very top node!!!! Great news indeed, so I decided right then in my excitement I was going to transplant her and mainline her! I've been feeding once a week with Liquid Karma at 3/4 strength. The plants in their buckets have roots like a foot long coming out of the bottom lol! And Phoebe's roots are hairy... :hump:

Vanessa in the ground

Vanessa getting topped (MUTILATION CUT IN HALF!! hard to do but I know it will probably pay off with a stout bush :D and "donkey dicks" lol!)

Vanessa after I mutilated her further! I hope this isn't too much shock for her all at once lol I didn't really think about it. For some reason it won't rotate on photobucket, oh well tilt your head

Vivian and Phoebe chillin waiting to show me their genitals

Now it gets interesting...

I should make some compost tea... Look at these veggies!

This is interesting for me. I rarely get to see such detailed documentation on an outdoor grow. Such a contrast to an artificial indoor suction box. This is awesome. Thanks, Brandon. Looking really healthy.
