running your grow room on solar power?

i was thinking today about if it was possible to run a grow room on solar panels. i saw a kit on the home depot and a 1300 dollar kit gives you a 14.5 amp circuit (not bad when you think about it). has anyone tried solar power for a grow room or know anyone who has?

regardless of your wattage or what lights ur using, you should be on a 20 amp circut....my opinion!!

I was just thinking of trying out a solar panel to run only my ballast. My sister used to have one on her roof and it stored energy in a power supply in the basement. Im not sure how much energy that was generated but surely enough to run a light youd think.

It depends on the volts. The one I see on the home depot site around that price range is 12v and its a 246w system.

Meaning if its a sunny day and you are at full production, you can power 246w per hour.

I might look at doing solar but with fiber optics as opposed to battery. Perhaps they would grow like a regular outdoor plant since they are getting essentially the same light. I've seen these types of systems used to light basements.

It would be nice as a supplement, tied into you normal supply. Running entirely off solar may not be the best idea, as the sun doesn't always shine.

Just don't go calling it a "green" technology, as it isnt environmentally friendly enough to make here in the USA. We outsource the pollution to China. A country that puts environmentalists in political prisons {and sometimes harvests their organs} is not capable of making an green, environmentally friendly product. Also consider that China cannot accomplish making a product without slave labor being involved.... think about that before you go asking for tax credits. Obviously it doesn't bother Congress, but obviously Congress is devoid of a moral compass.

And check your HOA covenant's first!!
Some are more satanic & un-American than others. If your nieghbor cannot tolerate you operating an organic solar harvesting system [a clothesline], then I highly doubt they will tolerate looking at your solar panel. That is how bad our NIMBY problem is in America.... and there are fucking morons who think we will erect 350ft tall wind turbines anywhere one might be seen.... without first legalizing clotheslines.

You raise a good point hoa can be a real bitch, i was just wondering about it seems like a cool idea. i found a thread somewhere where a guy mapped out everything you'd need to run a 4000 watt grow room but it costs like 23,000 when all said and done.

So you are proposing to install an incredibly inefficient photovoltaic solar panel(s) to collect a lot of sunlight, turn it into a tiny amount of electricity, then use that to power a LIGHT to grow a plant !!

The obvious, cheaper and efficient alternative is to put your plant under the primary light source.
