Samsung H influx L09 strip LED light grow - proof in the pudding!

LED lights that are built correctly can do just as well and in a lot of cases out perform HPS/CMH. That's my opinion based on my first trial run with my LED lights that I built a few months ago. Proof is in the pudding as they say, so I wanted to run 1 of these lights I built to see how they would do compared what I have always done for the past 12 years plus - HPS. Link to my light build and info: https://www.rollitup.org/t/drivers-and-led-f-series-h-influx-strips-best-choices.972330/

I want to thank a few guys on RIU that were very helpful with info and some guidance to what my light should do, and what led strips/driver combo would be best for my grow. Plus seeing others that have had success!
Thank you @Randomblame @nfhiggs @diyled @calitrees916

Here's the run down of this prototype run:
Strain - Mendo breath / wedding cake
9 plants in coco with 2 gallon pots
Modified lucas formula with Epson salt for mag
simple DIY DTW table

I fed the plants 3 times a day at the beginning of flower from 1-2 weeks once the stretch was finished. I stripped these ladies down to the bare steams. Week 3 changed to 5 times a day feeding only with the lights on. Simple DTW on a timer. I adjusted my nutrients slightly up at week 3 and stayed the same till week 7, and went to 300ppm of nutrients till harvest.

I would love to hear any comments or suggestions. There's not just one of us that's smarter than all of us together. Cheers!

Those are from seed or from clone? How long did you veg them?
How much did you get from them?

These were from seed, then cloned once I found a pheno I liked. Plants were vegged for 4 weeks from rooted clone. My yield was 1.5 lbs. Considering that the canopy wasn't full, several plants at different heights, and this was my first grow with this strain. I know I can get 2+ lbs per light easily. There was no CO2 in the room. First have your environment set, then add CO2 - that's what I do.

The buds were very dense, and extremely frosty. Even 2.5' down from the tops were dense! I was very happy with the results to say the least!!!

Hey Befri, I like your work. I've used the strips too, but I use them more in combination with other lights. The L09 is quite powerful; ended up giving 4 modules to my wife for her house plants that are living through the winter. Also I use 4 modules to supplement 4 x HLG V2 96s. That's a current project.
There are new modules coming out in the next few months from Samsung using LM301H and a mixture of other diodes you will want to check out. I would also think of adding some 'red bars' that are available from a few sources now; I saw HLG send me an email couple days back; I think cutter sells them too.
Yea, add some red or you will outpace photosystem 2. which causes bleaching and loss of productivity.

A real nice grow using the strips, I use the single row strips in my cab and can agree they work and work well. The only thing I can say is about the Epsom salts, if using it in a res for every feed it will help to add some calcium along with the Epson salts every other week. Blast on buddy looking forward to you next adventure.

Very nice and dense buds and the trichome density looks amazing. They are already billowing ...
Definately a keeper pheno!
I imagine what a UVB bulb would make of it... were all MendoBreath plants so resinous or just this pheno?
Will add this strain to my wishlist for next year. Many thanks for sharing your results, bro!

Nice grow, but it looks like you like to take em early. You ever ran them a full cycle and seen what they do?
Nice looking flower, maybe they could do with another round of flushing as the leaves are still pretty green. Congrats anyways, fantastic results for first time LED

56 days is a little soon, but the trichomes were all cloudy with none red. So I would say at least another 1 maybe two weeks tops to harvest. I took them on day 56 because of a home inspection, you have to love that!!! But at least it was close to the end of flower. Either way it's a trial run, and no doubt there's room for improvement. :bigjoint:

You're right, For sure they needed some more flushing, but I run a very low nutrient ppm to begin with. The most I run is 800-900ppm at the peak of flower on this run.

I need to learn more about this UVB bulb, red leds, etc. Experimenting I love to do that, and see what the outcome is. The mendo I have was from seed, and I picked the best pheno of the bunch based on leaf structure, and growth pattern. This was my first time flowering this strain. So I wasn't sure what to expect. The mendo I have seen wasn't nearly this frosty at all, but similar smell to it. The seeds came from a buddy's commercial grow that herm because of stress. He had he's a/c go out, and just about ruined his crop. I didn't get any issues with hermy on this grow, which I was worried about it happening.

Any ideas on what I should do with a UVB bulb, red led etc??

I've seen the new modules coming out from Samsung, I've called Arrow already and they don't know anything yet. Maybe something in January or February next year. I'm actually going to build a 15 light grow with LED lights. The question is what strips, and what configuration?? @Randomblame mentioned UVB bulb, and you what you said about red leds. What would be the best option?? I'm willing to try a couple different things to see what works.

HLG has the QB18's with red, deep- and far-red diodes you could use to add more of this wavelength. I like them more like rapidleds deep- and far-red bars. Maybe 2 or 4 of them for a 4x 4' area.

And for UVB you could use 1 or 2 reptile bulbs at the beginning. Arcadia has the D3 desert and D3 dragon bulbs with 12 and 14% UVB, 30% UVA. I've used them a few times and they do not harm the plant no matter how many hours they are on. Start with 1h in the last veg week and increase slowly to up to 6h per day in the last few bloom weeks. They are common T5HO(16mm) bulbs you can get in 2, 3 and 4ft. length, 24, 39 or 54w. A 2ft. bulb covers a 2x 2' area, 3ft bulb is enough for 6sft and the 4ft. bulb is good for 2x 4'.

There are also more powerful bulbs out there like the Agromax PureUV T5 or the Solacure Flowerpower T12. Both are much stronger and can cause serious problems like burnings and wilting leaves. More than 1-2h per day is impossible and these bulbs need a minimum distance of 20-24". Reptile bulbs can be used 8" above the plants and the only thing you get is a bit heatstress. Agromax PureUV fits in the same sockets and use the same balast like the reptile bulbs. Solacure are based on T12 and you are forced to use their own T12 fixture and balast because T12 is already outdated and T12 balast are no longer available(realy rare). For this reason I prefer Agromax. The Agromax 10k finisher bulb has btw a similar spectrum like a 12% reptile bulb. It looks almost similar to the D3 desert's SPD and costs are also the same. You could start with them and add the PureUV later like I do. Its needed to harden them up against UVB until the plants are used to it. This takes usually a week or so and is much easier with reptile/10k finnisher bulbs.

QB18's are to boost photosyntesis and you get higher PAR readings when you add them. Reptile bulbs have only ~10-20μMol/s depending on its length and PureUV and Solacure add almost no usable light besides of a little more blue. UVB is used to increase potency by up to 30% and more. I've added two lab tests below one with a dose of 13,4kJ/m² UVB the other with no UVB. We have btw an own UVB thread and a few older threads about UVB here on rui.

My next build I'm going to try the PLC Photo-Boost strips when they get back in stock.
And I wasn't knocking you for an early Harvest, just wondering if you ever ran them full term. Heck, there is still a few old growers I know that harvest at 56 days no mater if the plants are done or not where I run the same cultivars to 63-70 days.
