Saving Pollen

Just thought I'd see if anyone knew a way to save pollen over an extended period of time or if a month is about it before it starts turning moldy.

Sorry I cant give any personal experience, but I have heard you can save pollen for many months by freezing it. I have some super skunk pollen in the freezer myself, im assuming it will work. Pollen is usually pretty stable.

I took some pollin a couple of weeks ago. I just have it in a small glass jar. It's dried out enough. I just put the top on it and stuck it into a cool dry dark place. I just used it the other day and it seems to have taken. The pistils have turned brown and calyxs seem to be swelling up a bit, so pollination looks to be successful. I will be using it again in about a month. So I guess we will see if not putting it in a freezer or refirgerator will work out fine. I was always told as long as it was kept dry it should be ok to use over a couple of months. I am putting that to the test now.

Pollen is very resilient. I have stored it in jars for up to a month with no precautions taken whatsoever. It worked.

Well dry it out the best you can. Put it into a small glass jar or air tight container. Put it into the refirigerator to store it. If your storing it in the frig make sure the jar or container is air tight and don't open it up too often. Everytime you open it up you will let mositure in. Same reason why it should be air tight. Storing it at cooler temps should make it last longer. I am not sure if I would freeze it though.

Heck might as well try it both ways, isn't like it would be hard to come by once you have it.
