Hi everyone im setting up a room 300cm x 250cm and 250cm high or 10' x 8' and 8' high sealed room with 4 x 600w and probably 6 plants.

Questions

1. AC - For my cooling i will probably just go with a window unit for ease of install. How hard is a split system to install can it be done diy, any recommendations?

2. Im looking to go with a co2 bottle and reg cause i dont want the heat of a burner but cant find any hydro shops that sell this stuff can it purchased elsewhere, any recommendations?

Sorry man, working on my own (over)heating and CO2 supplement problems. I have been reading that most (if not all) split systems need to be installed by a HVAC dude. Not secure, Not allowed by many leased properties, etc.
Reason being; vacuum charging lines, use of freon, cutting holes in ext, etc.

I have been looking into fermented yeast for CO2 in a small area, making bread and booze; while simultaneously supplying plants with burlifying goodness! Sounds good in theory, I'll be experimenting for a while and probably have a post about it in about a month. Good luck!

You could buy a monitor/controller online. I love my fuzzy logic :-)
And find a place you will be refilling your tanks at if you haven't already.

I think greg is right about the split units.

Sounds like its gonna be a sexy set-up :-D

If you have your own well (no city water meter) you could run ice boxes with cold ground water to act as your air conditioner.

And in a sealed room, I wouldn't mess with homemade co2. Get the real deal with a proper ppm meter. I recommend the sentienl cppm4 for your co2 controlling needs.

Window ac will work fine. I run it in my room. But you need the back part out of the room. Or it won't work. Also have it as high in the room as you can.

For the co2 you can get a plug regulator off eBay and a welding store will have the tanks.

An electronic monitor/controller makes using co2 much simpler. I have found modern window A/C's don't leak much co2 as long as the rest of the room is well sealed. The A/C doesn't create a pressure differential between the room and the outdoors, but if the room isn't well sealed, wind pressure will create one.

adz, First off, 2400W total lighting is a bit on the low end for 80 SF. That's only 30 watts per SF. As for A/C, a window unit will be fine. Just make sure you've got a big enough one. For four 600W lights, you'll probably need at least 10,000BTU. There are split units that are pre-charged and made for DIY installation. Excel, Aura, and ideal Air are three that I've seen. And look around for the CO2 bottles. Several hydro shops near me carry them, and the regulators. If you can't find one in a shop, order the regulator online, and find a welding or beverage center that sells or rents them. In my area, there's a beverage center that rents them out - you give them a deposit on the tank, and pay for the CO2. Then you can bring the empty tank in and exchange it for a full one and just pay for the CO2. Repeat as often as necessary, then when you're done growing, you just return the empty tank and get your deposit back. Good Luck.

If you have the cash, mini splits are the bomb! the DIY ones can be installed without an HVAC. DO NOT INSTALL ONE without an HVAC. You will have moisture in the lineset and you will ruin it. 12k btu would be fine. looking at around $800 for a DIY one.

A little info on Co2 from yours truly... if your going to do it, do it right.

Along the lines of doing it right, get yourself a water cooled co2 burner. using co2 tanks SUUUUUCKS. A single tank will last you less than a week in your room. So that's $80 month on Co2, plus all that dicking around with tanks. Check out this link...

That set-up is fucking MONEY!!! with NG its basically free Co2. I think my gas bill went up like $4 a month. And the cost is just about the same as a bottle setup.

happy growing.
