Seed Germination To Seedling Question!

I'm trying to figure out where im doing it wrong.

For some reason latly my germinated seeds doesnt want to grow up to a seedling. This last time 7 of 9 seeds germinated, and only one have grown into a seedling.
I get the seed to germinate to they have about 1 -> 1,5 cm tail. I usually put the seed about 1 to 1,5 cm deep in a small container w/soil. Container is 4x4 cm. Container is black plastic, like the one you buy at a local flowerist. I also put small holes in my cans to provide extra air to the soil (usually using a small pin)
The seeds are a mix of skunk. Before this grow, i had mainly been using bag seeds witch only half germinated, but 7 of ten grew into a seedling.
I'm curious to why it germinates and not grows into a seedling. Also if anyone have any advice on how to identify when a germinated seed has the most potential becomming a seedling.

I always just gentle dig out a small hole in the soil about 1/2 inch deep... then using tweezers stick the seed in tail down, gently gover back with soil and water the soil. always start with DAMP soil...keep it loose and stay gently, its a fetus youre transplanting. never had one germ and not pot, dont pack the soil too tight make sure the soil stays damp and warmish.. same temp as germ or warmer.. .humidity helps but not really till after it pops

When it's popped and you can see that the main taproot is coming out about an inch long, plant it with the taproot pointed UP. This is because gravity will take action and cause it to grow back down leaving a bend in it, when it's time for the seedling to pop up all it has to do is bend straight up, rather then having to grow/stretch up.

Too much moisture can cause your seedling to die before it even makes up it, where if it's to dry it semi forces the root to grow at a more rapid speed in search of water. (This is obviously better then drowning it, so to little water is better then to much)
, and they're not strong little buggers so very gently sprinkle to soil on top not to cave it in, just enough so its sitting on top.

Could be the soil... what type are you using? You may be damaging it also when putting it into soil.

I just drop mine in a Solo cup (with drainage holes in the bottom) with soil, water and let it go from there.

asnd i been doin it wrong and 100% from a germed seed to sprout lol... but seriously thanks for the info ... never occured to me + rep

They may be delicate but they're a lot harder to damage then to provide the right conditions for it to grow. Heck i even dropped a seedling with it's taproot already about 2 inches. It obviously would of suffered but it grew into a fucking mighty plant none the less..

You learn something new everyday But most people still do plant it down, and it does work as good, just at a probably barely noticeable slower rate..

thx for replies The soil i use is pretty much a cactus/seedling soil. It dries out fairly fast, and I migth have been too active watering it. Also migth have been packing it too tigth. I'll take that with me when i set the next strain i got. Also an inch beeing 2.54 cm, i can see im putting them in soil way to fast. Does taproot colour and "fur" have anything to say to how ready the seed is?

It's never to fast, i mean in nature they pop and grow inside the soil. An inch is the closest example i could think where i've had the best/fastest rates

I'm not sure what you mean by taproot colour and fur? the root should be one colour and one colour only which is white (Maybe a yellow / green tint once it first pops out) and as far as fur goes...? i'm lost.. lol

I've seen some taproots getting greenish after a while , while germinating. Most are white aye. One of the current germinated seeds had most of its root turn green and was already shedding hits shell before i put it in soil. When it comes to "fur", its when the taproot starts making shitloads of tiny tiny hairs that covers the taproot. It have happend once or twice during when i germinated for the bagseed grow i had before this new one I'm curious to colour changing and this type of fur is signs of its ready to be put in soil.

that has happened to me before as well tryn to germinate my beans, i think it is mold. a whitish bluish hairy mildew and the colours are rot i think, the red and purple. green is just turning from seed/ taperoot into seedling. i am still looking for the best way to germinate my beans, usually only about half of my seeds split sometimes none do, i have tried paper towel, glass of water but i found the most succesful for me where they started 90% of the time is sowing them straight into soil packed loose with ONE thorough watering put into INDIRECT sunlight.

also does anybody know why all the seeds from one strain i grew this year are very small.. dark and tiger striped and fat just frickin tiny compared to the rest of my seeds. what does small seeds mean anybody know? small seeds small plants maybe? also the seeds werent this small last year.
