Seed germination

So I did the paper towel method and waited for the tap root to be about an inch and when I painted them they broke through the top of the coco but stopped growing. After about a week there was no growth so I pulled them and the tap root barely grew and was pretty much just a bit thicker. Also the cotyledons didn’t open when they broke through the coco like my past grows. I don’t have pics sorry but does anyone know what might caused this I made sure the coco wasn’t too dry.

Did you put the seed too deep

I put the seeds about 1/4 of an inch deep.

It would be alot easier with a pic I just want to be sure
