Seedlings and Lights

I have to grow my seedlings under a 600w hps. What is the rule of thumb for how high the lights should be over the tops of the plants... I don't want cook my babies...

buy a 125w envirolite blue spec to bring on your seedlings till they've got 5 sets of leaves then they go under the 600w HPS, if you put them under a 600w they'll fry man. even at 8ft above them .

Ive been using a 400watt hps on my seedlings and i used the 12" rule and they is fine,seeing as your at 600watts try 14-16" and see how they do

My seedlings dont seem to have fried,this one was a seedling 3 weeks ago,no veg time at all straight to 12/12 from its start.
I do have a dual spectrum hps though.
