Seeds planted in soil.arent germinating

Never tried planting directly into soil.before but have seen it done. It's humid and warm enough room.temp.so.i.tried it and have just been keeping the soil moist it's now end of day 4 . I have had these seeds for about a year as well ..

Do you think.they will germinate this way or rip em up and use the good old tried and tested towel and water method

Yeah give it a few more days. You should see them popping up soon.. dont go water logging the soil in hopes they'll pop up faster either.. lol.

How deep did you plant them?

Direct to soil is the way I prefer. Dropped in a hole about 1/4 inch deep then about 72 hours later they break through.

In this case the age, "about a year", should not be an issue. Give them more time before giving up.

Also … whether those seeds were stored correctly to still be viable.

They were still in the baggies in a coffee can. 2 of them looked a bit pale though which I discarded . But the rest still had colour

I've got my seeds in a padded envelope inside a airtight jar and in the bottom of the fridge, how long would you expect them to last?

I've got a fair amount of seeds and i feel i need to get through them asap.

I ended up using fridge ( crisper ) for all seeds - zipped and padded envelopes too. A few seeds I unfortunately left in old joint tubes didn’t germ - probably dried out. With seeds pricing I take no chances . I got some old afghans in long term storage ( seeds are 11 years ) and a few other “ keepers “ like 79 Xmas bud among others. Sometimes you end up with too many seeds.

When i use to do this shit, i would just get impatient and start poking around finding them lol
