Seedsman White OG and Critical Purple Kush - 400W HPS + LED (Indoor)

Hello, I am starting this grow journal since it's been several years since I've grown anything. I couldn't find a lot of information on these strains so I figured it would be nice if someone posted a grow journal. I bought a bunch of seeds (more on the way from the tude) but these are the first ones I decided to run. Three seeds of the White OG and three seeds of the Critical Purple Kush from Seedsman. I put all the seeds in some small containers on 12/9/2020 and they all popped on 12/12/2020. A few of the seedlings have stalled, and one of them did something crazy with its leaves. I have a 3x3 tent I'm using with my Mars Hydro 1000W (Yes, yes, it's more like 200W at the wall) LED and I just transferred two plants to my closet that is rocking a 400W HPS. I do have a 600W HPS that I might use depending on how heat goes with the 400W. I took the strongest White OG and the strongest CPK and put it in the closet to flower under the HPS once they're ready. I am growing in 100% perlite. I've grown DWC, ebb/flow/flood&drain, and soil before but after seeing a grower on Youtube I decided to try 100% perlite in 7 gallon fabric pots. I was also going to do an experiment with a 100% rockwool pot to see how that goes. I am using the KISS method rocking the Maxibloom nutrients throughout the entire grow. I also was watering with adjusted tap water that was in the high 5's to low 6's on the pH scale. I noticed some early calcium/magnesium deficiency so I flushed everything after getting some tap water closer to the 5-5.5 range. Here are some pictures of the seedlings and pots and such. When I saw that a grower managed to get 12 pounds off a 1000W growing in airpots in 100% rockwool I was going to veg/train the hell out of some of these plants to see what happens. Anyways, here are the pictures...

hey, merry xmas.

i grew out the Critical purple kush from seedsman last year or year before, i absolutely loved it. great taste and smell and very nice bag appeal. it was a fairly straightforward strain to grow if i remember right.

best of luck

Thanks! I am glad to hear the CPK was straightforward to grow. I have a good amount of seeds coming from the tude as well. I would like to find two keepers out of the bunch. So with Seedsman White OG, Critical Purple Kush, Badazz OG Cheese, and Royal Queen Special Queen #1 I am hoping to find something. It would be nice to keep a cut of everything, lol. I wish I had a ton of space so I could run all the seeds, clone all of them, and then keep my favorites. I have some DNA Genetics Holy Grail Kush I am really excited about, Reserva Privada OG Kush #18, Barneys Farm Wedding Cake, and like 10 more freebies including two or three autos. I will create separate grow journals for them but the hope is I find a couple strains that I can keep and continue to run. Here is a small update though...

After flushing the seedlings with some 5.0 - 5.5 pHed water they seem to have started actually growing a bit. They're still growing kind of slow and two of the CPKs look vastly different. One with thin jagged leaves, and the other is very short with fat leaves. The two other White OG are coming along well and now it's just a waiting game. The two that I transferred to the closet are doing good with the White OG on the left being the biggest plant so far showing the best growth. I started giving the two plants in the closet nutrients, full doses of MaxiBloom at 7 grams per gallon and I might switch over to the HPS to veg but I am also really considering getting another Mars Hydro 1000W to veg. Also I ordered some smaller fabric pots for the tent so hopefully I can get those in soon and then I'll transplant the four seedlings in the tent to some bigger pots and start hitting them with nutrients. Although my OCD gets fired up when the MaxiBloom doesn't want to dissolve in the water I am thinking I might try some different nutes, lol. Anyways here are the pictures, orange cups are CPK and the red cups are White OG in the tent. Left side in the closet is White OG and right side is CPK.

I've grown out the White OG from seedsman before, I had a 10pk of fems. Found 2 all purple phenos in the mix, wish I knew what I was doing as far as cloning goes back then, it's a heavy hitting strain thats for sure.

I've seen some people's plants at a month and although I am about two weeks away from a month of veg I do feel like my seedlings are growing pretty slow. I double checked the pH I was feeding, started giving nutes, and I even decided to go with a 50/50 perlite-vermiculite mix to retain a bit more water between feedings. I was also experimenting with some pure rockwool even though I should have broken it down a bit more. Hopefully the growth picks up in the next couple weeks.

Quick update! I had one of my plants in all rockwool and it wasn't going good, lol. The rockwool pieces were too big and I gave way too strong a dose of nutes so I ended up burning it. I replanted it in a 50/50 perlite/vermiculite mixture and gave it a heavy watering of 1/4 strength nutrients. Also I think the amount of light is slowing down the growth of the seedlings. I am using a Mars Hydro T1000 and the plants were curling downwards. So I dimmed the light to halfway to see if that helps. The two plants in my closet are doing way better, growing way faster, and they're in 100% perlite. I have them under a 100W CFL and they're much larger. I'm kind of confused since I have the Mars Hydro at 24" from the seedlings but still at full blast it was too much.

Alright quick update, it seems I severely stunted a few of my plants due to the transplanting I did. Also I had the White OG #1 in all rockwool and ended up burning it, and transplanted it into some 50/50 perlite/hermiculite. So it was really stunted but has been showing some growth in the past couple days. The odd this is how going straight into the larger pots for two of the plants put them far ahead. I also only had them under a CFL and they stretched a bit more but are looking way better. One of the Critical Purple Kush plants must be a lot of Sativa because it's already showing sex and shot up really far for some reason without much growth. Here is the tent...
Left-1-11-2021.jpg
  • Two plants doing the best in the grow tent. After the transplant it took them awhile to start growing and I was beating them down a little bit with the TS 1000W so after dialing that down to 50% and raising it a bit they weren't as stressed.
RightOne-1-11-2021.jpg
  • Here is the plant that I had in the 100% rockwool. I ended up burning it pretty bad on accident and also transplanted it after burning the shit out of it. After flushing it and then giving it half strength nutes it has started to show some growth.
CPK-1-11-2021.jpg
  • Here is one of the Critical Purple Kush plants. This thing is already showing sex and shot up far past the other plants. I am probably just going to flower this thing without taking clones. I don't really like how much it stretched compared to the other plants. Reminds me of the old Nirvana strains back in the day, lol.
Left-1-11-2021.jpg
  • HPS was on in my closet and I didn't want to turn it off so the picture aren't that great. Here is one of the White OG which was planted at the same time as the ones in the tent. I had them under a single 100W CFL and they've been under a 400W HPS for a couple days. Way bigger than the tent plants that I didn't transplant as quickly and were also stressed by the TS 1000W. So the differences are simply the light and this one is in 100% perlite.
Right-1-11-2021.jpg
  • Here is the other Critical Purple Kush in the closet which looks way better than the tent plants as well. It was also in 100% perlite and under a single 100W CFL. Goes to show that transplanting when the seeds are ready makes a huge difference and not blasting seedlings with light, lol.

I decided to pull one of the Critical Purple Kush plants. I didn't like the way it was growing. It stretched an insane amount, started showing sex, and then stopped growing all together. So I ripped it out and replaced it with a Pheno Finder - Rainbowcake freebie.

One more update! I decided to top the two plants I have in my closet under the HPS. I managed to catch them with the light off so grabbed a picture. I topped above the third node. I wanted to do Uncle Ben's method of topping above the 2nd node but after reading through the thread I believe he said to top above the third node if you wanted to take clones. I do want to take clones in my keeper hunt. I also took the tops and put them in some water to try and clone them in the simplest way possible. If they don't root then I can just take some more clones once I veg out these plants a bit more.

I grew the CPK for a comparison grow on another board I frequent on. Not a tight bud structure but she sure does stretch in flowering and gets super super frosty. Works great for a night night strain for me. Also bought a bunch of their The White OG but have yet to grow it myself. I think it was 10 for $23 and thought, what the hell, and bought

Two of the Critical Purple Kush plants look good but the behavior of the one I chopped down must have had some prominent hemp-like genetics in it, lol. While the other ones are short and stout with minimal space between the nodes the number three plant had some strange growth. The White OG and the CPK both smell good so far even in veg. I have two more White OG and I also have five Badazz OG Cheese. After these plants complete I am going to probably run all the Badazz OG Cheese at once.

Okay, well I got busy today and while being a busy body I probably screwed up a few seeds. I for some reason decided to claw through some of my fabric pots to see what the seeds were doing, mainly the Crockett Farm - SSOG, TH Seeds - Orangesicle, and Pheno Finder - Rainbow Cake. Now why did I do this? I have no idea, lol. I am really hoping I didn't destroy the Rainbow Cake because that's the one I cared about most out of the freebies. Either way, I didn't even find the seeds, combed through the first inch or so in the center and...couldn't see shit. I decided to brush everything back in place and just see what happens. I also decided to germinate my remaining Seeedsman White OG seeds. On top of that I transplanted all my plants as well including some seedlings I had going. The 50/50 vermiculite/perlite mix was holding onto water way too long for my liking. The interesting thing is the plants weren't showing much growth, and were starting to show deficiencies but they had massive root systems. Two of the plants in the 7 gallon fabric pots had massive roots all the way to the bottom and all over the bottom of the pot. I am wondering how the hell the plant has such a massive root system in a 7 gallon pot but has barely grown at all on top. I downsized the 7 gallon plants into 3 gallon containers and downsized the seedlings into 1 gallon containers. I also went 100% perlite since the other plants I have in 100% perlite are doing amazing and were planted at the exact same time. Also worth noting is I am using the KISS method which I have used a bunch before. I have been giving half strength nutes to the three smallish plants and decided once I transplanted them to hit them with full nutes, 7grams a gallon, pHed down to around 5.7. The seedlings were hit with just tap water pHed down to 5.7 as well. Here are some pictures...
AllPlants-1-14-2021.jpg
  • The three plants in the 3 gallon containers were the original White OG and Critical Purple Kush I planted. Downsized from 7 gallon containers to 3 gallon containers in 100% perlite
  • Transplanted the three seedlings from 3 gallon containers into 1 gallon containers of 100% perlite. These are the Wedding Cake, Holy Grail Kush, and OG Kush #18.
WhiteOGPlanted-1-14-2021.jpg
  • On the left are the remaining two White OG seeds I had that I just planted in 100% perlite in 1 gallon pots.
MoreSeeds-1-14-2021.jpg
  • And here are the three pots I decided to claw through looking for seeds, lol. My hope was I could see if the seeds had germinated and transplant them into a 100% perlite pot but I couldn't find one seed in any of the pots so I just brushed everything back down and walked away.
  • When I was dumping the other pots as well the 50/50 mix was clumped and had a ton of moisture. Nothing smelled rotten though and all the roots were healthy. I am still wondering why the plants put out so many roots and weren't growing at all on the top. Perhaps the pot was too big?

Okay, another update coming but only for the two plants I have in my closet. Which is one White OG and one Critical Purple Kush. Out of all the plants these ones are doing the best. I really stressed the hell out of my other plants with multiple transplants, and testing out some bad mediums. I should have stuck to the 100% perlite to begin with, but oh well. The two plants in my closet are 100% perlite and I am currently feeding them half strength MaxiBloom. The PPM from my meter is 660 PPM, and the tap water is 140 PPM. I pH to 5.8. The roots I am positive have finally really established themselves and the plants are focusing on putting on top growth now.

WhiteOGCloset-1-18-2021.jpg
  • Here is the White OG #3 - this is only five days of growth since I topped it and it is starting to put a lot of energy into growing
WhiteOGTopping-1-18-2021.jpg
  • Here you can see where I topped it above the third node. I am hoping that in a couple weeks I'll have enough clones I can take so I can flip it before the end of January. I would really like to keep a clone of this and the CPK that have been the most vigorous plants so far and haven't had any nutrient deficiencies.
CPKCloset-1-18-2021.jpg
  • Here is the CPK #3 and you can also see the difference in the leaf structure a bit. Although it is showing some paler spots on some of the leaves I am not sure if it is wanting a bit more nutrients. I'll probably bump them up to full strength in the next week. This one has massive roots and actually had a giant root popping up out of the perlite that looked similar to how a tree pops large roots out of the ground towards the base.
CPKTopping-1-18-2021.jpg
  • Closer shot of where I topped the CPK #3 above the third node. Hopefully I can get some clones and not screw the clones up so I can keep these plants otherwise I'll be forced to try and reveg which is a pain in the ass.

Alright time for an update! My Spider Farmer SF-2000 came in so I put it up in my closet to prepare to flower the White OG and Critical Purple Kush I have going. Which means I will be taking down my 400W HPS. I figured two years and I will have got the cost the of the light back and I have a lot of heat issues due to my location. We'll see what happens! My plan is to wait until the end of January to flip to 12/12 so I can be sure to get some clones off each plant. They're recovering well from the topping and have started putting on insane growth. I killed a few more seedlings on accident, and randomly found a seedling in a pile of perlite/vermiculite I thought I lost. I can't figure out if it was the SSOG or the Wedding Cake though so...I'll have to grow it out and see. The White OG and CPK I transplanted seem to be doing okay and they've started drinking again. I figure another week and they'll bounce back finally. I've been feeding them half strength Maxibloom which comes out at 660 PPM @ 5.8 pH. On top of that I decided to pop a hell of a lot of seeds. I am saving my last two Special Queen #1, and my five Badazz OG Cheese to run once these seeds are all done. I'll list the strains down below once I show my absolutely full tent.

  • I was like whatever, let's pop all these seeds and do the damn thing.
  • (5) DNA Genetics - Holy Grail Kush
  • (1) Humboldt Seed Organization - Sugar Breath
  • (1) G13 Labs Seeds - White Lavender
  • (1) G13 Labs Seeds - Tropical Punch
  • (1) Green House Seeds - Deep Candy
  • (1) Freedom of Seeds - Godberry
  • (1) Reserva Privada - OG Kush #18

  • (2) White OG in the back
  • (1) Critical Purple Kush in the back left corner
  • (1) TH Seeds - Orangesicle
  • (1) SSOG or Wedding Cake? No idea, lol. I dumped the pot after the seed didn't come up and then found it in a pile of vermiculite and perlite. Hopefully it lives so I can figure out what it is.
  • (2) Royal Queen Seeds - Special Queen #1
  • (1) Reserva Privada - OG Kush #18

Okay here is an update, if you have slow internet then this page might be a pain to load. Here comes a lot of pictures though, lol. I wanted to start flower at the end of January and the plants have worked out perfectly so far. The Critical Purple Kush is showing nutrient deficiencies for whatever reason when the White OG looks great. I have been feeding MaxiBloom 7 grams per gallon @5.7 - 5.9 pH. Four or five more seedlings died as well. The Royal Queen seeds some broke ground and stopped growing, one broke ground but didn't break its shell, another broke ground, shed the shell but then just fell over. Oddly the G13 seeds are the most vigorous. Sprouted the fastest, broke ground the fastest and put on their first set of true leaves the fastest. Also the clone I took of the CPK put on roots super fast so I transplanted it and the White OG clone I took looks like it is just about to put on roots. I took three more clones of each plant just in case. I pruned some of the lower bud sites on both plants, and did some extremely light defoliation.
Both Day One Top.jpg
  • Both plants. I saw this on another post but they used the tent liner filled with perlite. I needed to drop the height anyways because I had the plants sitting on a black/yellow tote. I'll see how this works out!
White OG - Side Day One.jpg
  • Side view of the White OG.
CPK-Side Day One.jpg
  • Side view of the Critical Purple Kush.
White OG - Top Day One.jpg
  • White OG top view.
CPK - Top Day One.jpg
  • Top view of the Critical Purple Kush. You can see some of the Cal/Mg deficiencies and I am not sure why. I will chalk it up to plant genetics so unless this ends up being some amazing smoke I might not run it again since I don't like finnicky plants.
CPK Clone - 1-1-2021.jpg
  • Roots from the CPK clone I took. It actually showed roots at 10 days which is really quick for water curing. I just put the cuttings in a glass of water and let them do their thing. So on one hand the CPK is finnicky and shows deficiencies that the White OG isn't showing but the White OG is just showing roots forming on the clone nearly three weeks after I took the cutting and the CPK was showing roots in a matter of 10 days. Hmmmm, decisions, decisions. I'll have to wait for the smoke report to see if I'll keep either one.

Okay it's been awhile since I've given an update so here it is! I killed a lot more seedlings, lol. For whatever reason even with the light at the max height in the tent and turned down to the lowest setting some of the seedlings could not handle the LED. A lot of the seedlings would just lay down and instantly die. Some of the seedlings didn't seem to mind though like the G13 Labs genetics. Both of the G13 Labs genetics didn't lay down once to the light, and are thriving compared to the rest of the seedlings. I flipped 12/12 at the beginning of February, probably Feb. 1st or 2nd so the White OG and CPK have been in flower for a little over 2 weeks. I also topped the White OG and CPK I have in one of my tents, as well as transplant the CPK clones. Unfortunately the White OG clone took forever to root and once it did have roots it was quite far gone. I still transplanted it to see what happens but the CPK clone has been taking off.
20210222_134734.jpg
  • White OG on the left and CPK on the right.
  • This is actually about 3 weeks in flower at the moment.
20210222_134812.jpg
  • Top shot of the White OG.
20210222_134818.jpg
  • Top shot of the CPK and I believe both plants after being topped at the 3rd true node have two main branches.
20210222_134856.jpg
  • CPK in the middle, and the clone in the bottom right.
  • White OG in the bottom left, top right, and the far bottom right is the white OG clone that finally put on roots but might be too far gone to survive. The CPK literally puts on roots giant roots in 10 days from the water cloning method and the White OG took I believe around 5 weeks. Kind of nuts...hopefully I can save the White OG because with my luck it will probably end up being my favorite of the two.
20210222_134921.jpg
  • Here are all the seedlings. As you can see a bunch died from the amount I had in this tent, lol. The DNA HGK #5 is dead but I haven't pulled it from the tent yet. All the other seedlings were doing the same thing, just lying flat and then shriveling up after a week or so. The HGK were doing the same thing until I raised the light a little bit more and then they bounced back but the seedlings that had already died, died. I only have the G13 White Lavender, G13 Tropical Punch, (4) DNA Holy Grail Kush, and Green House Deep Candy left. Losing the OG Kush #18, Barney's Wedding Cake, and the three Royal Queens seeds is kind of a bummer. I didn't care too much about the other seedlings. I imagine since some seedlings thrived and some died this must be a trait not many breeders pay attention to since they give perfect conditions. I was really surprised that the G13 didn't mind one bit. The biggest plant in this tent is the G13 Tropical Punch on the bottom right hand side. Since it's named Tropical Punch I am kind of wondering if the genetics are from a super hot place? Maybe that is why it handled the light intensity so well and didn't budge an inch when the others just laid down? Who knows, but I'll give another update here in the next month so the bud shots are more impactful.

Time for another update! It's been awhile and the plants are moving along smoothly so far throughout flower. Some light discoloration on some of the leaves on the White OG but still looks fairly healthy. The seedlings are all doing good and I topped and transplanted the other White OG and CPK I have in my veg tent waiting to run them next. Clones are booming and things are looking good! Only a few more weeks hopefully on the White OG. The strain says 60 days, but I'll see how it looks. I am thinking it will run to 70 days. I also like a heavy stone so don't be surprised if I let the golden trichomes run through the plant.

3-15-21-WhiteOG.jpg
  • Top cola on the WHITE OG, well one of two I believe it's partner in crime is sitting directly behind it.
3-15-21-CPK.jpg
  • One of two top colas on the CPK which has since fallen over into the wall due to the weight getting to be too much for the stems. I didn't have a lot of wind setup in my closet in the beginning so I might end up having to tie up a few of these branches.

Okay so the plants were chopped and dried so that will be my last update for those particular plants. I did have two more White OG plants that were in veg and a good size so I threw them into flower. I'll see how they turn out. I am torn on the CPK and the White OG. I felt the CPK could have gone a lot longer maybe even another three weeks even though I chopped it at 75 days but I was eager to get it out of there since I have so many plants to go through and I need to whittle them down. The CPK had massive roots through the fabric pot too. I ended up with 2.8 ounces of the White OG and around 2.9 ounces of the CPK. On top of that I had about 2 ounces of fluff from both plants combined. I have clones of both plants but I am kind of leaning towards the White OG. Meh, who knows, but here are some pictures...

  • This is the CPK the two main branches, but could be four? I'm not sure. Could have gone longer but I was done waiting on it.

20210406_164207.jpg
  • This is like a week out from when I chopped the White OG. I think it could have gone longer as well. I believe I chopped the White OG at Day 65. The yield wasn't bad, the buds had nice uniformity, easy to trim. I might have to keep this one over the CPK.
