Seeking Advice on Yield Expectations and Tips for Growing in My Setup

Hello everyone,

I hope you're all doing great! I wanted to reach out to the community and seek some guidance regarding my current setup for growing plants. I recently made some equipment and nutrient purchases, and I have received some seeds as a gift. I am quite excited about this endeavor and would appreciate any advice and insights you can provide.

Setup Details:

Lighting: I have recently acquired the Mars Hydro TS 3000 LED light, which I believe provides excellent intensity and coverage for my 4x4 tent.
Ventilation: To ensure proper airflow and temperature control within the tent, I have installed the Mars Hydro 6-inch ventilation kit.
Growing Medium: I have opted to use a 70/30 mix of coco coir, which I believe offers a good balance of moisture retention and aeration for the plant roots.
Nutrients: I have received the full line of advanced nutrients as a gift, and I am excited to explore their potential benefits for plant growth.
Seeds:
I plan to cultivate six autoflower seeds in 5 gallon pot :

seeds :
-two gorilla cookies (fast buds)
-one gorilla punch
-one wedding cake
-one jack herer
-one sour diesel

what yield can i expect as average of this set up ?
should I use SCROG training method on autoflowers ?
when to start LST ?

First grow? IMO - don't be overly ambitious, start with just 1 or 2 seeds, 5 gallon pots are good.
Lighting - 4X4 =16 sq ft @ 35w led/sq ft = 560w led. You're going to need another of those lights.
Good ventilation, more than enough. You might want to have a fan in there for air circulation.
Keep it simple, wait a couple of grows before experimenting wit LST & such.

Yield - Consider anything over an ounce a success for a noob

Yield is dictated by several things.

1) Strain. Every strain, and every plant for that matter, are different and will yield differently.
2) Veg Time. It's a simple calculus, a bigger plant is going to yield more.
3) Overall constitution of your plants. The healthier, the better.
4) Lighting. Probably the biggest factor for a well dialed-in grow is total light power.
5) Training. LST, scrog, etc can help increase yield, but IMO is not as big a factor as the first four.

If you can hit a half gram per watt, you're doing good. With a 450w light, that's 225 grams, or 8 ounces. If you can hit a gram per watt (16 ounces in your setup), you're hitting a home run with your grow.

Training can start as soon as the plant sprouts, and can continue through early flowering. It's really up to you and your style/setup/what works best for you.

Edit: As for autos, I've grown auto critical & critical x's that yielded as well as some of the better yielding photos I've grown. I've seen a lot of autos that are more on the spindly side and have that typical 'auto look' to them. If you want yield, and can spare a lot of veg time, photos can be advantageous.

I agree with what others have said. Concentrate on growing a couple happy, healthy plants start to finish for your first go round. So keep it simple. There will be plenty of lessons to learn along the way even in potting soil. I'd go with at least 5 gal pots for autos. 4 of them in your 4x4 would be a great use of that space.

BRA my brother grew the best weed hes ever grown in coco coir / perlite mix with advanced nutrients so expect great results. and the ts3000 is 450watts? i hope you yield 450 grams aka a LB omegaw! but like mtraindog said you might get 0.5gpw aka 225grams. i have never grown or seen anyone grow autoflowers but i have seen some amazing pictures of autos in flower! like i saw some strawberry gorilla auto from 2fast4buds that makes me drool!

so back 2 topic your probably gonna yield between 225-450grams like mtraindogsaid im not sure about auto's i hope they fill in the space and you get said yields i love photoperiod plants because you control how long they veg :)

Yield becomes far less predictable with autos. Maybe one or two topings but not a super crop and not after day 20 from sprout.your light is good enough to push your tent but gonna have very week light in the corners to max it out you'll need closer to 800w.
For your first grow your goal and priority should just be to carry healthy plants to the finish line. Follow the care instructions of a trusted advisor and watch the process play out your gonna learn a lot and do way better with experiance. New growers are always too excitable and over ambitious, trust me its best to relax observe and report, dont panic at every sign of imperfection most issues can be easily fixed. Sounds like have a great enviorment for your ladys to thrive in and should do fine.
Keep a grow journal lots of nice folks here will be happy to help along the way

If really “ first grow “ opt for a simple bagged soil ( peat ) potting mix to cut your teeth on. Jumping right into coco requires some control.

Autoflowers also can do well with a soil grow.
Yield is subjective - your goal should be to make it from start to finish with minimal issues. A good potting mix can provide all the feeding upfront for a number of weeks before needing some additional nutes to carry growth.

Also autoflowers do not need a “ full line of nutrients “ - you will find that cannabis only needs some basic nutrients all without cartoon labeled bottles.

OP - autoflowers equal unpredictability, no matter the breeder.

Photos are more forgiving but there are some decent smoke to had from autos.

I use basically your exact same setup, the ts3000w can get you over a pound easy if the rest of your environment is dialed in, I haven't put auto's under it for a full grow but photos for sure..

Learn from the experienced growers here. RIU is definitely the best forum out there.
Start a grow journal and open it up for comments and critique.
Less is definitely more, with nutes and especially lighting, untill you learn your light.
The medium is up to you,I'm using organics, Promix Hp with added perilite, EWC and gaia green.
I also started with autoflowers as I wasn't sure about light leaks from my tent.
Now I wish I had done Photos. Especially for a first timer.
If you mess up an auto.... There is no time for it to recover. Well there is, but it can hurt yeild.
1 of my 4 hermied due to light stress. That's out on the patio now.
3 are still going strong.
And last but not least..... Patience.... If you didn't have it befor. You will now :bigjoint:

And since we're talking about nutrients:

Nutrients are like automobiles. No one is "the best" because there are TONS of application purposes (growing indoor or outdoor, DWC or soil etc etc). Pick one that you like, one that has "the features" you want, and run with it. Myself, I use General Hydroponics becuase they dilute and mix nicely, they're cheap and easy for me to get, and I've had FAN FRICKIN TASTIC results with them. I also liked Athena Blended but it required more to be used for slightly lesser results for me.
