Selecting seeds

Been lucky enough to get killer genetics for my first two grows from a buddy that usually clones two many for his rooms. Well, he expanded his grow so I won’t be getting clones for a while, at least not as many as I’d like.
How do you guys select your seeds. I’ve been checking out great lakes but I don’t really know if there are strains a newbie should stay away from. What are the cons of autos? Should I start out cheap since I’ve never grown from seed except for a few bag seeds I’ve thrown in the dirt just to over water or burn up. Any suggestions I’m not thinking of?

Check the grow journal section. You can see strains and read about any issues with them. Autos are not as forgiving so if you are concerned just stick with photos. The ability to extend veg to correct issues will come in handy.

Getting a seedling to clone size is easy, if you have grown clones a while seeds are no prob. I recommend dc seed exchange if you are in the US. Easy with some great breeders. I had great luck with Briscos Bargain Beans. Just got in an order quick and easy from County Line Genetics as well. Respectively @Amos Otis and @J.James . A lot of active forum members have great stock.
Eso's seeds @thenotsoesoteric look like fire too, I know @evergreengardener has grown a lot of his gear with great results.

I would try and find something not expensive to try out. Even bag seeds, just to take self notes of the care it needs. Document feedings and growth. This way if you burn them a little.. you know where you went wrong in a sense. Watering issues can burn plants too.

I got a 3pk of ethos sunset sherbert OG that I am thinking about popping soon. Praying 1 is a female so I can let them have an orgy in the tent. I would love for them to reproduce.

I’m thinking of trying some autos for the learning experience along Side some photos in a long veg. Is this a horrible idea?

I was looking at briscos earlier that copper orgi looks amazing! I don’t think he will have anything until next month though. I’ll check out the others thanks for the info

Yes it is IMO. Autos should get 18 to 20 hours of light a day, some even run 24 hrs but I like to give the plant a rest period. When you flip photos you will be short changing your autos of light. If in same grow space I would go with one or the other.

I suck at watering. Problem is I only smoke what I grow and have only had three seeds in the last harvest. Kinda weird hoping for seeds when I’ve spent years despising them. I over watered the only wedding cake I got, that pissed me off, then I sprouted a purple sunset and it got so leggy it snapped over. I’m trying the last seed I have, another purple sunset germed then potted three days ago and hasn’t died yet lol.

I would put that clear cup inside another that will shade the root area. Don’t over water. For now give it a few sprays around the stem. A couple times a day. It don’t need a lot of water. If it’s stretching.. move the light closer little by little til it stops. That will take a couple days to tweak.

I have a veg room that I don’t have anything to veg in but I also have the space to veg a few plants for as long as I want if I dont get those clones for a while. Space isnt really a problem. The problem is I’m new and I don’t know what to do with it lol.

Right now it’s just in the flower room about two feet from a 600 hps and I put It under a 40 watt cfl for a couple hours a day to make sure it Gets 15 16 hours of light. Been experimenting with my first couple ( horrible) attempts at clones

These are all just for shits and giggles. The two clones I wanted to see if I could get them to root in at 12/12. I let one go to see what would happen and topped and trimmed the other and put under the cfl every night. And yeah they are usually in red solos just pulled the seedling out to see how bad I’m screwing up the watering.

As you grow and smoke more and hang around in the forums, you'll begin to narrow down your interests in strains and breeders. Starting out with inexpensive but decent seeds is good advice. I'd stick with photoperiod fem seeds, and once you grow a few to a size where you should top them, practice cloning. You might find a strain you really want to keep around, so it's good to have reliable cloning skills for when you need them. I don't know who has cheap/decent seeds in domestic banks, but there are lots of good inexpensive dutch seeds if you don't mind ordering from overseas. Longer shipping time, slightly more risk (though I've never had a package intercepted), but lots of inexpensive decent stuff-check out Nirvana. Also, Attitude and Seedsman are reliable-the Seedsman brand is surprisingly decent for the price-the reason I mention these places is you can get a ton of freebie seeds to practice with when you order from them.
