Short bushy plants after 3wks

Hey Gang. I'm about 3 weeks deep into Veg and These guys just aren't getting tall at all. They look like small bushes. I have the light up high, thinking they'd stretch for it, but alas....no dice. Iv'e got them in 5gal fabric pots, with about 3 gal of medium in them. I didn't want them to get TOO tall, but wasn't expecting short guys either.

(I know I've got some spots on the leaves. Researching old topics to see what that could be.)

Thoughts on the bushy short plants? Diesel Auto seeds is what I planted.

I will say it looks like the way you planted it pretty deep into that pot, it is likely impeding proper air flow. Hopefully someone more experienced can give advice.

What kind of light are you using? It maybe to powerful for veg. The leaves look like they are trying to avoid the light. When did you raise the light? It may take a few days to a week for them to recover. What are your temps? Your plant looks like it’s to hot that’s why you see all the sides of the leaves lifting. Don’t let water drops stay on the leaves either. You can burn them. The dropplets are like a magnifying glass. I could see a reflection from one of the dropplets that your using some kind of led.

I've been watering about every 3 days. GH nutrients. Mars Hydro LED 2000w at 100% about 30" above the plants. 18/6 light schedule.

I normally shake the leaves after I water to get rid of the droplets. Took the pic before I did that.

Think I need to turn that light down a bit?

First thing you should do is roll the sides down on that pot, it is way too deep.

Good call, or even cut the top inch or two off of the pot... down just above soil line... they are pretty inexpensive.

Also/Forgot:

3X3X6 tent, with two plants in it.

8" Carbon filter on a 4” inline exhaust fan.

Temps in the tent are set at 75-deg. I have a thermometer switch on the exhaust fan. When temps get above 75, it kicks on.

I PH the water to 6.5. Soil PH hovers around 6.6-6.8

Topped one plant 2 days ago. I am just doing one to compare yields.

Will do now.

The edges of the fabric pot BLOCK some of your lighting to side branches . Dirt should be about 3-4 inches higher so stems + leaves can get reflected light and direct overhead light.

You didn't use enough dirt and you planted so deep you cock blocked yaself.

I dimmed the lights down to about 60% this morning too. Hoping the combo of a few changes helps out the situation.

I did some reading last night here and it seems like the plants may have been protecting themselves from too much light by not growing tall and throwing extra leaves out. It’s my first grow (obviously) so I’m still learning. Just growing so my fiancé can manage pain, so it’s a process.

Thanks for the help, gang. I’ll keep you all posted.

You say your temp is 75, is that day AND night? That will slow a plant down a lot. You need a temp swing; positive differentiation.

My light schedule is 18/6 right now so the temp dips lower at night. I haven’t checked it though, as it’s off when I’m sleeping. The switch is set to not let it get above 80, and then cool to 75. So the temp could get up to 80 and then I’m assuming it drops to about 70 at night. So there are swings.

One day after cutting the sides down, and it’s already an inch taller. Great advise, gang. Thank you.
Are you giving them any type of CalMag supplement? Looking at the lower older leaves, it appears you could have a deficiency there. Someone else can chime in as well and help diagnose.

Yup. Ordered yesterday, and it’ll be here today. Plan on adding to Saturday’s watering.
