Should Flashing Your Headlights To Warn Drivers About Cops Ahead Be Illegal?

I always hand signal to drivers and point to my radar detector when a cop is near, in Florida I could be ticketed? Ive even thought about installing digital marquee text or some king of sign.

Flashing your lights to warn of police officers is illegal in Florida and this man is filing a law suit on motorists behalf.

No way, I heard about someone being prosecuted for that here in the UK recently, I think its one of the few ways people group together and help each other out. What a daft piece of bullshit legislation... I always think truck drivers think us other motorists wankers, until im giving a reassuring flash by one whos just passed a camera van.

It should be illegal. There is a good reason there are speed limits. Speeding causes accidents. DUH! And prohibiting signalling isn't remotely violating free speech. Instead it should be under accessory to a crime.

I cant disagree with this^, Especially considering its about public safety.

Selective individual liberty. Interesting. Hypocrisy at it's finest.

Traffic tickets are not cool guys, they don't serve any purpose.

Going to have to agree with you for once. Although don't endorse idiots speeding and talking on their cell phones.

I don't endorse anyone getting arrested or ticketed for offenses that don't harm another individual, especially citations, I shake my head every time I see it actually. I thought other libertarians felt the same way. You guys aren't libertarians?

That's crazy to outlaw. That's predatorial of them.

If flashing your headlights is illegal then they could ticket ANYONE and simply say that you flashed your headlights, thats the point, hell what if you accidentally hit it with your hand? Should you be ticketed for accidentally brushing up against your brights button?

It is illegal, by signaling the presence of the police you are assisting in the completion of whatever crime is being committed. This makes you an accomplice.

The cops sit on a public roadway, in plain view of anyone that drives by. It's a bullshit law designed to controlling the population a little more. You citizens better not tell anyone we are here or we’ll get you as well. Can you be charged as an accomplice to a crime, if no crime was being committed? You guys assume other drivers are breaking the law. Aren’t we innocent until proven guilty? This is almost as bad as laws against videoing the police.

this is just another thread meant to 'scare' the people into losing trust in their government. the laws aren't against video-taping the police. they are against recording audio of the police while in duty. meant to protect undercover cops or some bullshit. some counties are interpreting it as 'videotaping' the police while in the public, but the supreme court has stricken it down.

much like i suspect it'll strike this down if somebody has the time and money to take it all the way up there....

Your right it likley won't last, however, in the original post I mentioned that the man was filing a lawsuit but you conveniently ignored that, many people have been fined for this already in Florida. Additionally, a man in Illinois is facing a life sentence for video taping police on his own property.

i would say it's because in your shower, you're in the privacy of your own home, at least i hope so, lol, but cops being video taped would be while they are out on public roads...
if they're allowed to video tape us, dashboard cams, why is it not fair play the other way round??

It's quite amazing how people I know to support Ron Paul don't see how this is a liberty issue. Fucking government corruption runs deep. Cops have to make their presence known when they are clocking people that is why they are required to be visible while they speed trap, flashing your lights at other traffic going into one is just an earlier notification. Personal freedoms and free speech are second to none.


On that, locally cops have installed a camera on bridges into islands that read your tags and then they are told by dispatch the color, make, and models of cars with any issues what so ever throgh their tag information and the cops wait on the only road off the island for you to drive by and pull you over.

Who wants to discuss this entrapment?

This issue is now online so it will be dealt with. Get ruling then something else. I am guilty. 65 mustang and Toyota Tiger at stop light, I see the cop coming and jump the light, Tiger gets pulled over I get waved over. Yes? You two were drag racing! No I saw you and I excelerated to 45 I'm less than a mile from home. I did not get a ticket that day.
