Skunk, where has it gone?

Why has modern Marijuana breeding lead to the death of the truly arcid pungent roadkill skunk of the past? Is it really a bad trait? I am personally a lover of that nasty funky smell, but when it comes to finding strain that can consistently produce this in seed form one finds his or her self getting a bunch of floral or hashy strains with a slight skunk undertone. I just wish the old school stinky skunk was as available as it was 20 years ago. Please feel free to post your opinions and feeling on the situation.

The mother of this hybrid is our own proprietary clone, and in our hearts is as legendary as any of the others in our collection. Simply put, this is the stinkiest herb in any of gardens, rivalling even the UK cheese. The flowers exude an intense Skunk odour with astringent/citrus undertones.
The Hybrid with Deep Chunk The smoke is thick and full flavoured, and the effect is an intense “stone”; narcotic and somewhat trance inducing, yet always enjoyable. The yield is above average (325-450 g/ sq m).

What? breeding my own strain to consistenly put out skunky buds? Thats an idea but i would really like to obtain a clone only strain that is know for its skunkiness( Mass Super Skunk, Trinity, Sour D) to have a good strating block. Any strains that anyone has grown that have been exceptionaly skunky please feel free to share your experiences.

i dont ever remember skunk smelling anything like a skunk,and their was a lot of skunk around,every one i know was growing skunk or northern lights or romulan,whit widow etc.but i never could figure out why they called it skunk because it never smelled like it.

i actually have a bc roadkill about 30 days in flower right now, she is starting to get that funky smell, but she still has a very strong rotting citrus smell to her. She is a pretty girl though, packing on the crystal, and looks to be a solid yielder i did veg her for 2 months. and topped her a few times. I'll post some pics if i can figure it out.

super skunk is really the only commercial dodo i can buy. kinda tired of it, love the smell tho.

Soz to be pain but could i ask what breeder your gettin this strain thru?
I got a pack of 10 SS beans thru BDS 2 were instant males 4 went maf very late!
left me with 3 females coz 1 didnt pop haha

It's been a few years since I've been into contact or grown Super Skunk, but from memory, it had the Skunk smell you speak of ... Maybe that's just fond memories tho... I became obsessed with Guns N' Roses while smoking Super Skunk, it just vibed well ... Good times, gooood times

+1 rep..I agree. Skunk used to smell like a skunk. My step-dad used to sling and once or twice a year you'd think there was a fucking skunk in the house.

I've done Super skunk fem'd and now I'm doing Skunk #1 fem'd from Sensi..both are killer but they smell kinda spicy not skunky at all.

A few years ago I grew Super Skunk from a place called WeedFarmer and I started a thread on their forums wanting to know what the hell happened to the skunk smell. People didn't know what I was talking about. I've tried a couple of other breeders Skunk strains over the years and can't find that true skunk smell...."This shit is skunky as hell!" has become a generic term, kind of like saying "Yo, I got that fire!"

Everyone from round my ways seem to say there bud is skunk you get three different sticks & they all completely different! haha
OG skunk#1 is alot better than the stuff people call round here "skunk" & it looks and smells alot different

Old School Skunk. Once or so a year a run a batch indoors and just happen to have some about three weeks old. I will add some pictures of the "little stinkers" and I mean little stinkers. At 2 weeks or so they begin the "odor" lol. Thats why I only grow them from time too time. The pics show them at 18 days. The upper left and right plants have some compost from my home pile mixed in the soil mix. The ones in the dixies are "diesel ryders". I figure if it going to stink I better make the best of it! Anyways, I agree. Old School Skunk is the bases of most hybrid grown today. Rock solid, near impossible to killl even if you only have a mintgreen thumb. And the buzzz!!!!!!! I LOVE IT!!!!! What happened to the good ole days?

funny i came across this thread , when i was 16 i had my moms car , i came across some friends . long story short ..i smoked a little back then ( a bowl with another head or 2 ) ...well my buddy says "you wanna smoke a j" i said hell yeah fire it up...no bullshit ...within 3 seconds i stopped the car ..yelled (yes like a little bitch) dude get outta my moms car..im gonna be in so much troube..that is my story on the 1 and only time i smelled ..and passed up REAL SKUNK ..that shit smelled like you ran over a fuckin skunk..i know exactly what your talking about my friend..VV

Yep, the seeds I have are truely heirloom. Been keeping the family alive for over 25 years! I have tryed many times to grow one Some critter either eats them or rolls around on them. I work for a farm that tills over 3500 acres and many great spots to grow. BUT NOT THESE! Have not found a place far enough away from any kind of game trail to keep them hidden. Makes you wonder how they exist at all?

As always there will be some boys. And I will jack one of those little bastards off and sprinkle it on what I hope is a chic. But I have noticed over the past few years the hermi rate has increased greatly. Not sure if I am losing my touch or just a fact of many years of inbreeding? Anyone have a thought on this?

I agree stanky, I know of that skunk your talking about. Dank, leaves a taste of skunk in you mouth all day. Like you ate roadkill. When I drive by a dead skunk in the road, I slow down just to take huge whiffs. Where o Where. Lets bring that beautiful strain back. I harvested super skunk it was nothing like I expected.

last year I did s.s., and got 3 phenos- one smelled like dandelions and lysol..I couldn't smoke it! it was nauseating! crystally as HELL! the guy I gave it to wanted more maybe catpiss?... the second pheno was 'little shop of horrors'; this monster was out of control! I've never seen weed grow like that! it was kinda' purple, and had a pepper and sweet taste...the third pheno was the smallest(relatively speaking!) it had the oldschool upholstry glue skunky skunk#1 smell that I hadn't tasted since the mid 80's. I crossed her with a widow male to get the santa cruz shark. it's an altered beast! retaining most of that sharp skunk smell. the skunk is in there(supuer skunk)...somewhere, just gotta' find it..or you can get some on bidzbay...they were just posted the other day!https://www.breedbay.co.uk/auction/auctiondetails.php?itemname=Skunk-IBL&id=108173

I was thinking...in the future- crossing the oldschool sk#1 with shiva shanti..that garlic bud taste would help the skunk! and shiva's no slouch when it comes to crystals!
