So I think it looks inevitable that my state will go full legalization in the next year or so. All the states around us are beginning too. We finally got medical a few years back but it is very narrow in scope. No cultivation. No smoking etc. The proposed legalization legislation proposes up to 10 plants. My question is… beings my state is on the east coast and so far behind the times… do you think there is a market for consultations on growing and the building of grow rooms? i was thinking this could be a good side hustle with some potential to capture a burgeoning market here.

I guess it depends on whatever fee structure you're going to charge and your future customers perception of what your contributions make to the ROI to their business. Ask yourself if you would purchase services from you, how much you would pay and what assurances/guarantees you would expect. And I suspect your state would have to be 100% legal because you would know the location of their grow rooms, so would that knowledge make you a liability or a suspect if they got arrested/ripped off or whatever?

I think that CBD has drastically reduced these opportunities as a lot of people I know that have gotten into CBD are doing it to hasten eventual transition into legal medical and rec.

Thanks BB! I was hoping you would chime in. My plan was more geared towards individuals that wanted to start to grow for personal use, but had no idea where to start. I had a rough idea of 2hr in-home consultations for a flat fee of $150. That's what I charge for pool tutorials/inspections. As a consumer myself, I always appreciate when someone has clear, upfront pricing.

Ah home consultation may work but it's a bitch. I have done a lot of it (not for weed) but when you do people expect miraculous results even if they don't do what you said. With the internet making everyone omniscient and oh so smart what happens half of the time is home rescue. People think well I'll just watch youtube videos and learn. I don't need anyone. Then they start out f'd and beg for someone to help.
The best thing there ends up being word of mouth. Get a few people closer to you that you know you can depend on to follow instructions well to produce a couple good grows and journal it well and you can present it like a scrapbook almost. You know what you are doing but everyone else will have looked up 2000 ideas before you get there. That's just ime imo. I do think it could work but it would be a lot of work.

Then again I see you do this with pools so kinda right in your wheelhouse. I charge for my (non weed related services) 120 for a visit up to 1 hour and 80 per hr after. If it is a business i do 200/150.

That is true. With the internet people become know-it-alls. I see it with pools for sure. We charge the discounted flat fee for tutorials/inspections, pretty much knowing we'll recoup the discount later when the people end up using us for service/repairs that are discovered on the tutorials/inspections. Or needed when the newbie tries it themselves and fucks up lol. That was another aspect I figured on with the weed side. Pest control, deficiencies etc. Like I said, I see it more as a semi-lucrative side hustle for a couple years. And with Facebook and the like, word of mouth and free advertising are easier than ever to achieve now. As with any business, location is huge and because of how dark ages my state has been, its one of the only reasons this could work here. Kind of like a niche market, specifically because of the location.

Yes yes. If you build the room you should keep them as a “client”. The more rooms you build...scale it. Consultation is a verb. It happens when we build the room (give them the plant) and advise. Also, you have to be creative with your environment. Teach “ them” to be independent. When they are independent they will pass on your teachings.
Sincerely,
Professor Budsly

I have to agree with dbz, as I am almost sure that CBD has actually reduced this kind of opportunities to the minimum. Same thing like he said, I have got a hell a lot of friend that got into CBD, however the main problem is that they do not even take into consideration smoking marijuana again. I do understand some of them, as they have kids, and the smell is really ... bad for them, to say the least. I know a local store, as they faced some problems right after mj was legalized in this state. However, right now they are doing great, they have already called for the service of https://codetoart.com and they are going to have an amazing site and app soon.
