So I ran a 1000w bulb on a 600 w ballast

So I was in my room. Putting a 600 watt light in there. Hooked up my 600 light and to my 600w ballast. And nothing? I was like fuc! My ballast made a weird noise too. It's a mag ballast. Then shut it down. Hooked it back up. And then seen my 1000w light up.
I said" o shit". Unplugged it and ran the right hood this time.

Always thought a 600w ballast could run a 1000w bulb. But I see it can't or at least start it all the time. Well mine didn't. Thought my ballast took a dump, but just had the wrong hood plugged in. Crazy!

You can always run a bigger bulb on a smaller ballast safely, you just ruin the bulbs spectrum. The opposite way is dangerous though.
