It is a very bad idea to use fertilizer for soil in hydro. You can however use hydro fertilizer in soil. Soil fertilizers often contain organic materials which can break down later in your reservoir and DRASTICALLY change the pH thus killing your babies.

YEAH THANKS FOR THE INFO.. ok what about using rain water in my hydro setup? i didn't boil it . i checked the ph and adjusted it to 5.7 and tested the ppm that was at 25 hehe. pretty clean huh

Yea, I'm not entirely sure the above is accurate advice....

I use grow big soil (6-4-4) in my hydro system. It's formulated for soil, with a higher N content to make up for what gets washed out with the runoff in soil plants. It doesn't have any clumps or anything that will clog your hydro components. I use a the grow big at half strength and add a little more big bloom than I normally would and a little seaweed fertilizer to compensate. It's really more a question of dosing the individual nutrients.

I'm not recommending you do the same thing, but don't assume that just because it doesn't say hydro on the bottle you can't use it. As long as it's a liquid concentrate or something that dissolves in water, I don't see the problem....

YEAH? i had 4 gallons of nutrient solution ? i guess 1 gallon was absorbed by the plant so i wanted to add a gallon of nutrient sol so i premixed 1 gal with the fox farm grow and it was like 1 teaspoon of sumthing and it seemed to have helped them with a growth spree . i checked the ppm and it was 1400 or so.. then mixed it into the rez w/ a ppm of @1200 . the ppm was then like 1400.
i just didnt want to have it get mukey on me just sitting in the rez so maybe i will add some air stones. i will definatly keep an eye on it and possible rotate or change it out more often due to the above statements about it having organics in it, i am definatly worried about a faster change in ph as this seems to need constant adjustments .

If you don't have an airstone, get one asap, it will do wonders for stabilizing your ph. It's also cheap, like 10$ for a pump, tubing and airstone at the pet store.
