soil w/ ashes? ideas? comments?

I have never personally used ashes in my soil but i wanted to know if taking ashes straight from my fire place would be a good thing to put in my soil and if there are any problems in doing so.

any other thoughts with some insight or quality logic?

Here's a link for ya, its good fert but unless you have acidic soil it is going to fuck up your PH unless you use something else to lower it back down.
