Sold Possible denatured ethanol

Been making some gummies last couple of weeks. Went down well.
But my old supplier of non denatured ethanol disappeared some time ago and its almost impossible to find it here (no everclear either)
I came across a new supplier and asked if it was denatured and he instead it wasn't, then I opened the bottle and thought that doesn't smell right so I contacted him and said it was denatured , he insists it isn't and is imported from EU.

Anyhow ive just tried one of the new batch which are higher mg in concentrate but it doesn't taste right to me, kind of like what I would imagine perfume would taste like.

So it seems to me not worth the risk of using until I can get confirmation from the company who make it.
I suspect the answer will be is denatured making it useless to me.

My question is given I have a source turbo which I want to use but will not use denatured ethanol and seemingly may not be able to get hold of food grade ethanol anymore what options do I have?

I can get lab grade ISO but even though I have seen people talk about using it for edibles I was under the impression its not suitable to eat.
I don't want to make anything that's unsafe .

Sorry for the long winded post .

Anyone got any advice as far as quick wash extracting for edibles?

Many times you can contact your local alcohol/ABC store and inform them you need 200 proof ethanol for essential oil extractions etc and they can order it easily.

I was watching some videos the other day on how to increase alcohol levels the other day using salt...have not tried it or done much research on it yet, but looks interesting. They make 90 proof from 50-70%.
I've been using/experimenting with coconut oil and water much like how canna butter is made and it seems to work out fairly well so far. When its done cooking/simmering I strain it (turkey stuffing bags work great for this step) back into the coconut jar and turn it upside down in the fridge. The oil settles to the top and when I open the jar almost all of the water can be easily dumped out.
I've only been using some scraps from a not so good grow to do tests with, but so far the gummies still have a bit of the cannabis taste and I'm going to be trying some extra flavoring on the next batch tonight. :P

Moonshine still
This is what ive ended up doing.

After a bit more research I found the company that supposedly made the ethanol do not export so I was told it was fake labels.
Initially I thought denatured but now I think the guy distilled it himself and didn't take off the heads and tales leaving a nail polish type taste which tainted my oil. Im only going on the research ive done on distilling in last couple of weeks though.

Anyhow Ive got a turbo 500 reflux still on the way and have a few recipes to product a nice clean neutral spirit of around 95-96% and then ive got some zeolite molecular sieves to dry it out to 99-100% .

Really looking forward to running some fresh material now once i've got my own ethanol.
For the last year I have been running 2-3 year old trim that's been in the freezer, literally the worst material you could imagine, puts everyone one their ass though. ;)

Nice
I haven't used a reflux but if my sole interest was making grain alcohol the turbo 500 is the way to go
I went a more traditional route :bigjoint:

Funny how hobbies can grow out of neccessity.
On uk gov website they mention additions for denatured/rectified alcohol. Stuff like methyl ethyl ketone, which can also be used as nail polish remover. For non rectified /non denatured alcohol, producers/distillers must pay £28.74 per litre into HMRC coffers as duty. lol. I wont tell a soul, promise. You only bought that Turbo500 to distill water.

Be prepared for alot of work, with very little end product. It took nearly 8 hours to run 5 gallons through my old reflux still, for maybe 2 quarts of pretty pure booze. Distilling cheap strong wine would save you some time on the brewing end, or better yet cheap vodka

Yeah man im expecting 2-3ltr after cuts from a 25ltr wash , should take around 4 hours if I get the outflow temps right.
Been able to reclaim 75-80% of it when extracting means I will probably only run it a few times a year.

Did you make your own still or was it shop bought? I see a lot of folks build their own.

I bought mine from brewhaus 15yrs ago. Only did 2 runs with it.
Wound up selling it to a girl that was going to make herbal extracts with it

Not sure what shipping across the pond would run but this distillery is about a hour away from me and I can vouch for the 200 proof denatured ethanol--totally safe and about the perfect vehicle for tinctures.

Isopropyl is a FDA Class III solvent with the following FDA guidelines:

Solvents in Class 3 (Table 3) may be regarded as less toxic and of lower risk to human health. Class 3 includes no solvent known as a human health hazard at levels normally accepted in pharmaceuticals. However, there are no long-term toxicity or carcinogenicity studies for many of the solvents in Class 3. Available data indicate that they are less toxic in acute or short-term studies and negative in genotoxicity studies. It is considered that amounts of these residual solvents of 50 mg per day or less (corresponding to 5,000 ppm or 0.5 percent under Option 1) would be acceptable without justification. Higher amounts may also be acceptable provided they are realistic in relation to manufacturing capability and good manufacturing practice (GMP).

A good idea to have it tested for residual solvent, but Iso is a pungent alcohol and you can taste it far below 10% of that standard, so if you have normal smell and taste, and you can't smell or taste it in the concentrate, you are ostensibly safe.

In excess Iso attacks the liver as well as the central nervous system and the auditory nerves, which is why most of use ethanol when we can get it.

As noted, you might consider picking up a refluxing still to bump lower proof Vodka to 190 proof, and adding a desiccant like Drierite if you want it higher. You can also produce 190 proof from scratch for about $8/L using a grain mash.
