Still using a Dr Dabber. Its OK but I dont reach for it much. I'd like to find something better. The Gpen Roam looks nice. Or maybe a Hydrology9 for dry herb.

Ok, ok. Ask better questions. As in if you don't know what a stalk/base is and think it's a problem. Then I can't help more. I'm not trying to be a dick. Just use your head a little.

Usually successfully germinating a seed and letting it grow is the leading cause of stalk growth.

Jokes aside, what he was trying to say was that it is normal for the base stalk of the plant to look a bit worn over its lifespan.

It's normal for it to get a bit beat up and pitted/raised over time.

Are you talking about the bumpy white growth on the stalk? If so, you cant "fix it". Its usually due to stress or an interruption in nutrient transport triggering auxins. The plants trying to grow more roots to survive.
I understand you're trying to learn but you're overthinking a lot of this.
