How much of trunk/stem size is genetic vs growing skill or training methods?
All on the grower IMO,less light, less wind, less food= skinny stems.Im harvesting a plant now that cant support its self,Ive grown her several times in different mediums.Always had thick stems but for some reason this time shes anorexic.Bud development seams to be equal though.

Veg time and genetics are the key factors in stem size, all other things equal, although they are often not.. so small stems can come from error. Topping and top down lighting creates a plant that is not normal, it makes it physically top heavy and off balance structurally, prone to bending. With strains that have tighter node spacing or in the medium to low yield range, the effects of bending stems are not felt as much, as it's just a matter of physics at that point.

I’m outdoor but here is my method, I put a 3’ diameter and a 6’ diameter of chicken wire held up by bamboo so I can service the plant. Then I run 6’ bamboo horizontally to give it structure and give me options for tying stuff down or adding more vertical bamboo. First I tie them up and then I tie them down to spread the plant out…I need to tie up now.

I like the reply’s to this post.

Personally I bury a tomato cage in the pot and use it to tie to and spread the colas out. Cheap, easy and effective.
Too little too late for that now though in your situation. I stopped using bamboo because of the mold issue as well. Good observation with that one. I also stopped using stakes because I always get too baked and lean in too close and poke myself in the face. Lol. Such a dummy sometimes. Almost poked my FN eye out in my garden outside before. Fack. Got it right in the corner.
Safety glasses. Lol
