Day 2:
2200 hours on January 23, 2012.

The grow box is set up with one light. I intend to expand as far as lights go in the future. I have been attempting to germinate the seed in a wet paper towel, inside of a Ziploc bag in the dark. Germination time, or until the tap root is visible is estimated to be between 24 and 72 hours. No sign of emerging tap root yet, even under a magnifying glass. I have saturated the soil with tap water, but will water with the slightly acidic phosphorus mix from now on. The light cycle during vegetative state will stay strictly at 18:6. (Light/dark.)

Day 3:
I'd like to start by clarifying that even though this is day 3, the seed will have only been in paper towel for 48 hours as of 1900 hours on this date. I'm happy to report that the seed appears to be showing a tap root today. I'm trying to be patient and wait just a little bit longer before I plant it.

Also, per request, I've posted pictures of the grow box.
Edit: I planted the seed at 2200 hours on January 24, 2012.

Nice one man, definitely subbing to see how this works out. I like your reports of events so far, though when I click any of your attachment links I get "Invalid Attachment specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator"

Day 4:
I named my seed Claire because I'm a freak, and in response to RRain, yes I was gonna keep it in there for the whole grow. I should be able to let the plant reach about two feet in height. This is my first grow too, so I don't want to make it too big. I started it last night in an 18:6 light cycle, starting at dawn. I'll check it again tonight at dusk, and photograph. That will be up later.

Nice man, I have never seen a grow box like this before, I'm gonna love to watch this and see about making one of these in the future as this would fit right in my flat! (camo-wise)
Have you got it held up to the lights at the moment? It might be worth sticking some reflective material in there for that bit extra light!

The only reflective material I have is tin foil, and its kind of crowded in there already. My main objective right now is to get a few more lights, because once the plant sprouts up, I'm gonna need them.

Great idea, Anonyymous! I've got a PC case I'd set up for growing, but I decided that it was going to be a bit too small for me this time around, and that I was going to use a laundry hamper or something instead. I was sorta iffy on the laundry hamper though and was thinking about going with some Rubbermaid Containers, but your grow here has reignited my interest! I've got a few questions for you though, if you don't mind.

• How big is that fan (in millimeters)?
• Is that fan intake or exhaust?
• What are the temperatures like inside the bin?

Thanks in advance!

Good luck to both of you. I've got a trashcan setup right now with 10 bulbs that's the bane of me. One 150mm outtake and 2 intake fans, can't keep temps below 89. Right now I've got an enourmous floor fan sitting upside down on the top of the trashcan, blowing in at full power just to keep it at 83 degrees. My computer case on the other hand, was much easier to balance.

Frawsti, try putting cups of ice or frozen water bottles in there. They'll lower the temperature by about 5°F and because of your fans, the humidity should stay relatively the same. However, if your fans go off, your humidity will probably shoot up to about 80-90%. I've got a 120mm and five 80mm fans that I can use, but my need is for a super stealth grow. A few more questions if nobody minds.

• How do you prevent light leaks with a trash can grow?
• Will the temperatures be okay with only four 26w CFLs?
• Generally, how stealthy are trash can grows?
• ScroG any good, or just LST and trimming to keep the plant away from the side of the bin?

Thanks :3

Prevent light leaks using PVC 90 degree bends for plumbing pipes where the fans are. Scrog is your best bet, and 4 cfls will keep temp fine but not be enough light to support your plant.

hahaha i had the same setup once but with a larger trash bin youd see around your local neighborhoods on trash day. never got to use it though things came up.

lookin good im gona keep up with this one!

@Frawsti, I think four 26w CFLs should be enough for one plant, as the lumen output is about 7280 lumens in a trashcan with about 2sq. ft. thus putting out 3640 lumens per sq. ft. However, the minimum amount of light needed is 3000 lumens per sq. ft. so four 26w CFLs is a bit low, but it'll do. Perhaps I'll upgrade to four 42w CFLs and see how well those do :) as far as the PVC bends go, would those work internally? Because, if not the 90° PVC tubes jutting from a trashcan/laundry hamper would compromise it's stealthiness.
