Uhm... it's day whatever.
My girlfriend broke up with me, so I got really high, and went to check on the seed, and like lost it in the soil and everything. The tap root is progressing very slowly out of my seed since I only had money for one light. I really need to get more. But to answer questions:
-The temp. of the 1 daylight (6500k) bulb is warm, but not very hot at all.
-To keep the container dry do two things:
-Place a towel on the bottom of the bin to soak up excess water. Change the towel whenever is convenient to you.
-Buy a planting pot that has a pop off reservoir. I got one at home depot for just a few dollars. If need be, take the pot out, pop off the reservoir, and let excess into a sink.
-All this being said, don't check on the seed more than you have to.
-I prefer to keep it at an 18-6 light:dark cycle. This is preference, but I find it works good during vegetative growth.
-My fan is an exhaust, that pushes straight through a carbon filter. These are fairly cheap online, and do a great job with odor control.
-Stay away from odor control CFL's. My friend had one, and the bulb smelled kind of funky itself.
-The fan came out of an old e-machines computer. Just popped open the case, unscrewed it, stripped the wires, found a suitable power adapter, and connected. I don't have exact specs. on it, I'm sorry.
-Intake is just the hole I cut to stick the cords out. No fan there.
-My trashcan is very stealthy. It sits in the very very back of my crawlspace. No attention down there.
-If you had the chance to use a larger garbage, like the ones you put at the end of your street do it! Because of their shape, I find that my garbage can is the perfect canister.
-Use mylar, or white paint on the inside of your garbage. Some thin or light colored plastics will shine light through them. If your bin will be in a visible place, I'd recommend this.
-ScroG methods are possible in garbage cans by mounting a net at a fixed height. If you try this you will NEED to have a way to water your plant. This means when you design your bin, cut a small hole near the bottom for access.
