Hey all. For the past couple days I have been in the process of modifying on of my shelves into a small grow room and have a few questions that I'm hoping some of you will be able to answer. My Grow room is pretty small, its probably just over 3 feet tall, 1 foot in depth, and one foot in width. I am hoping to be able to grow in these peramiters, please tell me if I'm wasting my time. The lighting I have set up is one 100 watt regular old bulb and a florescent light that is about 30 watts and just over 100 volts. I am on a low buget (actually I am broke and yanked the lights from the dormatory) and am hoping this lighting is suffiecent. Do I need more lighting? less? well the plants grow with the type of lighting I'm using?

Right now I am germinating my seeds so I will post pictures in the future if I can grow the seedlings sucessfully. Thank you

u should probably get different lites for it, that 100w regular bulb isnt gonna do nething at all,u mite get away with usein maybe 2 150w CFL they are the 10 dollar ones, like the 42w or w/e.and cutting holes for ventilation. u could grow maybe one plant.

Much thanks for the tips, if im only growing one plant do i really need 2 150 watt bulbs? what if i were to get an 150 watt cfl in addition to my 30 something watt flourescent. oh and one more thing, do you think its best to grow one plant or to grow a few very small plants. ive been reading about the sea of green technique and wondering if that is at all practical in my small grow space.

if you have a single lamp fixture for your light, you can go to any hardware store and pick up an adapter that allows for 2 lights, then get the 2 highest watts that you can get, they are sizable, so you may want to attempt to bend and tie your plants so that all the leaves recieve light, in such a small space you may want to attempt only 1 plant at first, then see what you can manage with it. also ideal light for a plant is generally 50-70 watts per square foot, a small grow space make this more achievable. with your grow space, you will want ensure that you plant grows out not up, putting lights directly on top the the plant will stop it from reaching up, but not so much that you burn the plant

so i guess two lights it is. i guess i can buy 2 150 watt lights, but i am on a low budget and am already going to have to shell out 20 dollars for two small desk fans to ventilate the place. The main reason I only want to use one 150 watt cfl and the 30 something watt flourescent is that I hear it is hard to keep such a small grow room at a low enough temperature. I guess i can use some frozen 1 liter watter bottles to help with the problem. Thanks for the responses!

The white thing that cracked out is called a tap root... so since its a root you want to put it down...some people plant the root under the soil and the seed above(so all you can see is the seed) some people plant the seed so its 1-2 cm under the soil(make sure its light)not packed down over the seed. Planting the seed then sprinkiling soil works well. When i grew soil i just poked a made a seed sized hole in soil...put seed in White root Down...then sprikeled a bit of soil overtop untell you cant see it.
i reccomend you go to a local wallmart or somewhere and get the biggest "Daylight" cfl If you can only find small ones get 2 of them and get a Y adapter( allows you to put 2 lights in one socket)
This will work for vegging... You will want a small computer fan as a intake.. on the right hand wall of your box...at the bottom...and you will want another computer fan(same size or bigger) for exast on the top side of the Left wall( or oppostite of that(bit intake always at bottom of box and exast at top) If you have a window on one side of it put the intake on that side...and keep the window open if u can(radioshack and such places have computer fans) if they dont come with a plug ask the people there or check out the FAQ on how to make a cord and plug for it.
paint the inside of ur box flat white ( to reflect light) ( i am asuming u will box it off with wood)
If i were u i would veg Your plant untell it is 1 foot tall..
then get a 2700K(soft white)CFL- try to find one of those really big ones
and flower... it.... At some point( in ur situation when u have the money) try to get a small ossolating( turns back and forth) fan for inside that will blow on ur plant(strenthens the stems) hmmm what else....
Im no expert im just sharing with you what ive learned....
Any questions just ask.
Stay highbongsmilie
Peace

Oh and i would keep ur lights... about 3 inches away from the plant( if its staying cool inside maybe 1-2 inches)

that clears a lot up, thanks. i guess i have a few questions. the first one is will a computer fan be enough to keep the temp low enough with 300 watts of lighting. im also wondering about this whole one plant thing. i mean if i have only one plant it might turn out to be a male and this would be such a waste of time. if i have lets say three plants my first run, let them grow to 6 inches lets say, and take a cutting from each of the plants, then put them into the flowering stage to find out which are males and which are females. take the female cuttings and then that way i cant grow one female in the room at all times. basically i just want to have a female in there. any suggestions anybody? thanks
