Storing Bulk Weed Long-Term

Hey all,
I'm growing a lot, but only because I want to never have to worry about running out. I just started growing, and I was curious as to what the best way to store harvested, dried, cured bud is. I was thinking about using my vacuum sealer machine (FoodSaver-type), but my concern is crushing the bud and trichomes. What's the best method to store bulk (10+ ounces) dry bud once the curing/drying process is complete? I'm not looking for necessarily the longest-lasting method, but whatever method would be the longest without damaging the trichomes or buds.

Thanks!

PS--Since this is my first post, ppl may be curious bout my username...it's a combination of 3 of my favorite bands: Sepultura, Metallica, and Soulfly.

dark cool place in air tight glass jar, and make sure they are dry or you will get mold

I've often thought that a vacuum sealer made the most sense and was asking the same questions myself

I'm interested in seeing the responses

yeah like t9x said..put them in those air tight glass jars that your mom used to have candy/cereal in..or atleast mine did:blsmoke:

stays relevant.
If you have a seriously large quantity, spending money on a system for storage would be worth it.

See, I've always had that in mind. My only concern though is when you vacuum all the air out of the bag...it tends to crush anything inside because it removes so much air. I wouldn't want to risk damaging the heads of the trichomes, or smashing the buds. I do have a special jar & lid that came with my FoodSaver-type (it's a knock-off) system so I can vacuum the air out of that without damaging the contents, but even on the website, I can't seem to find replacement jars.

So I was thinking of just getting a bunch of XL-size 420 jars from 420jars.com. I've heard lots of good things about them.

Can you recommend any particular systems out there? Or would that pretty much be a home-built thing? I.E. various shelves to hold jars of different strains. I'm pretty handy with building shit, so that wouldn't be hard at all for me to do. Like a shelf for each strain. I've already decided to invest in a nice tall steel gun safe for this purpose, that way all my stuff is secure. I'd be bolting it to the concrete floor in the basement, and I can get those big-ass bags of silica gel (they're about 6" x 12" with a plastic hook to hang them...most people hang them in their basements) to absorb water (as putting a dehumidifier in a gun safe, no matter how big the gun safe is, is a bit impractical).

Anyone ever stored in one of these tall steel gun safes before? If so, what are the pros/cons of using it for storing herb?

I mean in the unlikely event the cops DO show up to my place, I know that if they really want to, they can get that safe outta there, but I'm hoping that it's such a pain in the ass for them that most won't bother trying. They're lazy where I live anyway. LOL.

You wont be able to really get rid of the air if you use a jar, the food saver works because the bag collapses as the air is removed. Adding a little dry ice to the jar might get rid of most of the 'bad' air.

The thing with the FoodSaver though is that it has a jar attachment...like a small plastic jar (non-see-thru) with an airtight lid and a one-way-valve. You connect a hose from the FoodSaver to the one-way-valve and it sucks the air outta the jar without damaging the contents (i.e. if you are using it for its intended purpose and, say, you wanna save potato chips that would normally be crushed if you used the bag). I'm just not sure how reliable the seal is once the air's vacuumed out...i.e. the probability of air leaking back in.

Come to think of it, it has a special lid attachment for using standard mason jars and lids...wow. Just answered my own question! LOL. Now I just need to find that attachment!

Thanks for the warm welcome, too, guys (and gals).

Fdd2blk (Metallica fan?), that is a fucking great photo!

u can also try to use some vacuum jars or whatever they are called, that u can take the air out with the foodsaver, or putting the weed on a small jars without top and place it on the bags and vacuum the bag (I have seen this but not for weed, but is the same lol)

also why not getting a wine cellar with cooling system :blsmoke:
