You can't call something ad hominem when it doesn't even refer to a person but a country. Can you "Attack the man" of a country? Don't think so. The OP has presented his opinion that Canada has a better economy and healthcare because of socialist policies and I am telling you that is not true. The reason Canada has a better Economy is because it has vast resources, like OIL. Ever notice those countries that are net exporters of OIL never have bad economies? By having a trade surplus with the USA ( Canada provides 50% of Americas oil) Canada has plenty of extra dollars to spend into its own Economy, it has these dollars to spend by having all sorts of exorbitant taxes on its citizens. I know plenty of people who are from Canada who have come to the USA to get surgery or medical treatment because many of the doctors in the less populated areas know shit about medicine. Take for example the UFC fighter Brock Lesnar, read what he has to say about the Canadian medical system after it almost killed him. He ended going to some po dunk town in North Dakota to get real care and ended up living. http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/world/us-fighter-slams-canadas-third-world-health-system-82235207.html

Im sure Canadian Doctors are well trained to treat the flu, remove a cyst, prescribe drugs and use the x-ray machine if it works. But I wouldn't put my life on the line if i could afford to get care in the USA. Our care may be super expensive, but its the best in the world.

Ill tell you how long. When the Obama care starts you are going to start seeing the amount of money that Doctors make decreasing. As time wears on people will find it much more advantageous to NOT go to 8 years of college to be a doctor and the accompanying HUGE loans to pay off but instead to perhaps not go to College at all. The higher learning institutions in this country are really just extensions of high school, the majority of them do not educate. The majority give you a piece of paper for memorizing everything and being able to correctly spew out terms when asked, not true learning. And they do this at an ever increasing cost due to government subsidies. The government will give you all the loans you want to go to school all you have to do to qualify is fog a mirror.

Medical care in the US is not as good as it is because of government , its as good as it is because there were lots of well educated people who wanted to have high paying careers and they competed with like minded peers who did the same. Competition breeds a superior product. Non Competition ( Socialized) breeds incompetence and low quality. Doctors in Canada make on average 30% less than an identical US counterpart. During the next generation you are going to see fewer and fewer skilled healthcare professionals as the decline in real wages disillusions many. The talent will go where the money is. It is human nature to want the good life for yourself and your family. Life, Liberty, Happiness and all that Jazz you know?

I remember reading an article recently, about Great Britain wanting to emulate our healthcare system more closely. Meanwhile, we are trying to emulate theirs! lol! Can anybody say "The grass is always greener.........."? We've definitely got problems with cost and health insurance companies are slowly squeezing us dry. That said, I think that throwing the baby out with the bathwater is just plain foolish! We are sabotaging our quality of care and it's going to become even harder to be seen. God help anybody who gets really sick. We may actually see Americans flooding into Canada to get seen! Now that would be some messed up shit!
