Success getting spider mite infestation under control with AZAMAX

A few weeks back I opened my tent to discover webs on several of my precious nuggets approximately 4 weeks flower and I went into battle mode with 3 products: doktor doom (miticide formula), Azamax and Wipeout (basically the same thing as Ed Rosenthal's Zero Tolerance).

I thought the DD was no good as it shriveled many of my leaves and although it may have helped kill these mites off, I don't think the plant damage was worth it so I will not use DD again in the future. On top of the fact that it's very expensive. I don't believe in expensive bug control products much as professional gardeners would never spend such an exorbitant price for bug control in a large farm.

Moving on to the Wipeout...it's an organic concentrated formula of cinnamon oil and some other organic goodies that the mites don't like. I only used it once but this is another very expensive product so it will no longer be used in the future.

This brings me to Azamax. AZ was my 2nd course of defense against the mites and I have continued to use it every 3-5 days and I have seen no mites and no damage from mites in weeks.

All in all, the AZ is hands down the cheapest and most effective product to have in your arsenal. In the future, I'm considering a more heavy duty preventative in veg just prior to flower flip along the lines of Forbid and then Azamax once in early flower and go from there.

I will say that when I apply the AZ, I thoroughly saturate the leaves and I try to avoid the nugs as much as possible but they obviously get hit at least some. I also put 2 fans on each plant to fully dry the AZ off the plants to prevent bud rot / PM prior to the plants being placed back in the tent. So far this little routine seems to be working well. I shall post some nice harvest pics in a couple weeks.

As you will soon see, it's most likely the Azamax knocked most of them down, but I've yet to see it totally eliminate the entire mite population. Many, including myself, use Mighty Wash- which is frequency water (I think it's water with an electrical charge). I spray at night when I just turn the lights off, and then give the room a good rinse off with plain pH water when the lights go back on in the morning. 2.5 gallons costs me around $75 delivered. It can be used up to harvest day- just always rinse the plants down well after use the next day and the plant will show no ill effects ever. It can be used daily, but once a week when necessary usually works wonders.

If the infestation is really bad, I move on to Forbid 4F by Bayer. It's quite expensive, but kills eggs thru adults, moves easily from the top of the leaves to the bottom (although it's not systemic) where the eggs and mites hang out and the residual kills for up to 45 days. Always use it before flowers start to form. They sell small tubes of it for $20 on Ebay, and I get maybe 3-4 applications out of it. Only 1 application a crop.

Basically, over the last few years, I've tried everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) at one time or another- and my method is quite effective. Also, and VERY important- I rinse/wash down everything in straight Clorox at the end of the crop- pots/floors/walls/lights/ watering cans/containers,etc. Rinse well with fresh water afterwards.........

I successfully killed off a spider mite swarm on two plants using nothing more than a mix of minced garlic, red cayenne pepper and dish soap blended together. I caught them very early but they were successfully thwarted with these 3 household items.

i think its that capsaicin in the peppers. i have a pure capsaicin extract and i mixed it with some water and tobacco, let it sit overnight and threw it on the leaves , wiped them down later, havent seen webs since

First time I used pepper spray, it felt like I was pepper sprayed...had to move the operation to the basement.

Organic dish soap is good, suffocates the little bastards...but must be rinsed off after 20-30 min.
